newbie. going to what I used to call the "dark side".... mainship 350/390 trawler

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.

I have a 1997 350 with twin Volvo TAMD41PA. No thrusters. I single hand mine all the time. Bow thruster not needed with twins! Easy to handle. I dock and pick up moorings all from the flybridge helm station. Naturally better with a mate pick up the mooring pin but can be done solo.
My buddy has a 2000 390 with a single CAT with thrusters.
I cruise at 9 to 10kts. At 7 to 8 knots my fuel consumption is not more than his by much. I do my own maintenance so cost is not a big issue. Plenty of room for me to work. Im 5'10" 190 lbs and fit fine working around both engines.
PS... Dont pass up a good boat because It has Twins. I actually lost an engine on a night time crossing 14 miles offshore. I came in on one engine in the dark. She cruised just fine on one engine.
Good luck.
Message me if I can answer any questions for you.

That's been my experience with my twin enging Mainship 430. The second engine adds very little to the total costs, yet provides great maneuvering and the option to come home on one which I did one day off the coast of NJ.
