Hello - I’ve been spending much time watching Trawler / Passage videos on YouTube - @The71Percent my current favorite. Getting the bug / getting hooked. Plan to attend the upcoming Seattle and/or Vancouver boat show. Been to Anacortes several times / thinking of it as my home base / port. I’d enjoy communicating / meeting folks from this area who cruise the San Juan Islands and Vancouver north. 72-years old, retired, single, 25-years of season-pass skiing, world traveler, hiking, photography, and have a North River fishing boat.

Welcome. Anacortes is a great place to call home port. But demand far outstrip supply for moorage. Decide what size boat you want and get on the wait lists before buying. Keeping in mind the slip length is length overall. Bow sprit to aft most appendage.

Thanks, yes - aware of the demand / supply equation - funny story, I inquired over at Roche Harbor and was told “You’ll be lucky if your grandkids get a slip!”…

Anacortes is a great place to keep a boat, with multiple marinas and several shipyards and great access to the San Juans and Gulf Islands. There are some good restaurants, a couple of good grocery stores right by one set of marinas, and a couple of good hardware stores. Not much in the way of marine supply beyond West Marine.
As mentioned, wait times for marinas can be in years, but dry storage is available and a good option while you’re waiting.
Bellingham and Everett are both worth considering also.

Tahoe,
Did you check out banannabelt boats in Anacortes? That's the easiest way to learn what you get for what you pay, lots of for sale boats on the hard, easy to zero in on what you want: layout, space utilization, etc.

Check out La Conner too for boats and moorage. I've kept my trawler there for 10 years.

Moorage there is transferable for boats in the water for sale.

There are 30' slips available in Shelter Bay, across the channel from LaConner.

Are you thinking of moving here or just keeping a boat here and flying in from time to time?

Oak Harbor might be the easiest place to find moorage, but adds a couple hours to your trip north.

If moving here, Bellingham and Anacortes are decent sized cities with restaurants and other urban amenities. Bellingham probably has the most convenient airline connections to Nevada. La Conner is a beautiful town, but the main strip is mostly boutiques. Not even a hardware store there. If you prefer a more diverse population in terms of age, ethnicity, and political leanings, Oak Harbor may be your best choice.

If you're used to Tahoe, you may be disappointed in our skiing. The hiking can't be beat, though.

Scott, thanks for the tips. I’m thinking of moving there and will enjoy the quick access to Canadian for both summer and skiing. I’ll check-out La Conner and Oak Harbor.

Thanks Bob - if I make the move, will most likely need a slip than 40-50’.

Thanks for the tips on banannabelt boats - I’ll check them out…..as well as La Conner.

Thanks for the info - I will also consider dry storage. I’ve also been looking at Bellingham but haven’t yet considered Everett…..more homework for me…
