Bet everyone (at least most maybe) have been out in sucky conditions where they kept their morale up by saying to themselves "I have been in worst".

Well .................................................... I never want to be in those conditions again!

For my next boat I am thinking about getting a plaque to hang by nav station "Never say you have been in worst again"

We always say we don't want to go out in storms, don't want to be caught in bad weather anymore, that we like a comfortable ride, just enjoying the journey.
And yet, every year we have a few times that we are caught by surprise, end up in horrific weather and then we tell eachother again that we don't want to do that anymore.
I guess it will never change. We end up in bad weather and due to climate change it is getting more and more extreme.

The worst I have been out in was coming down the Pacific coast in 18’ waves. We approached Grays Harbor and called the CG for a bar report. They asked if we were requesting an escort, I replied no just the report. They asked if I was sure I didn’t want an escort. Being not completely stupid I realized what they were trying to tell me so I said yes I was requesting an escort. They sent out a 47MLB to escort us in. The coxswain told me that under those conditions they wouldn’t use the channel to go in. We finally got in and they helped us tie up in a matina. The 47 has a buoyancy chamber above the flybridge that is similar to a radar arch except it is foam filled to help right the boat if it capsizes. It is about 18’ above the waterline and we have a photo of it on the other side of a wave and all you can see is the antennas mounted on top of the buoyancy chamber. The next morning going out over the bar which was closed to anything under 36’ driving from the upper helm I was loosing sight of 50’ fishing boats. I had to constantly shift one engine in and out of gear so as not to bury the bow when we bottomed out. It took us about 45 minutes to get out over the bar. We got down to Eureka and checking the weather report it said 65+ knot winds and 30’ seas. So we chickened out and left the boat there for a month before we continued the trip down the coast.

We got beat up pretty bad coming down to Little Harbor from Marsh Harbor yesterday. The weatherman lied. Been a pretty rolly night at anchor as well. I don't see that as a trophy or something to be proud of. Had I known, I'd have stayed at the dock.

That's a short trip. Once you came out from the Point set into the "open" and saw it why didn't you turn around?

Just wondering

I have some guests visiting and didn't want to disappoint them. They are boaters too, and they handled it just fine.

Should have just gone over to Hopetown etc and stayed out of the west winds. The nice thing abput Abacos is that you can find protection from just about any wind. Wait till you get to Exumas and face a West wind :)
