I've scoured Chart 1 and 5011 now to try to understand what these specific symbols mean. I can't find an answer. What are the red (pink?) dotted lines with the triangles oriented both inward and outward?

The triangles are pointing toward areas demarcated that may contain uncharted fish traps or similar structures. The narrow channel like areas between them are fairways that should remain clear. The larger N-S running area is a spoil area with depths noted.

The paper and raster charts use alternating long and short dashes, shown in section N of chart 1, there is no specific symbol for this in ECDIS. This is one of the many reasons I will miss raster charts.

I purchased US Chart 1 in the the beginning of my boating career and it has served me very well with all of your answers and examples of Chart Symbology

That helps quite a bit. I haven't used Navionics in a few years and probably need to load that app on my ipad.

More (newbie) questions though. The NE/SW corridor leads directly into that spoil area, correct? I assume that as long as depths are adequate, there's no reason not to cross that spoil, or anywhere else for that matter?

Yes, I suppose that is correct. I was apparently confused because it appears to be a channel on the chart and it seemed strange to me that there would be two cables running parallel and marked with cans. Also, there are square/rectangular stand-alone areas (spoils).

Yes. But note also some dashed lined areas may be restricted, for example the bomb target places. Olde Timey paper maps usually had notes. New fangled electronic charts you can usually click on for a description. Sometimes it’s a CFR reference that you might have to look up.
