My first 'broad stroke' question.

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.

New to learning about Trawlers.

Staying as objective as possible can someone give me a broad stroke description of Trawlers and companies.

In sailing you have 'production boats' (and the perceptions of those), go fast sailers (cramped interiors), blue water sailboats, etc.

What are some Trawler categories?

Our wants are a Bahama Cruiser, at the moment 40' seems right.

Looking for direction on starting our research.

The first and biggest separator of boats is what I call...

Coastal Cruisers These are boats designed to cruise along a coastline wherever you might choose.

Passagemakers These are boats designed to cross oceans.

My boat is a coastal cruiser. I drove it this summer from Alaska to Mexico. I need to follow a coastline where there are places to hide from bad weather, and buy fuel. I have around 600 miles of safe range and am happy as long as I am within about three days of a fairly protected harbor or anchorage.

The boat across from me is a Nordhavn. That boat could leave port for Hawaii, something I simple cannot do. It has the range to cross oceans and the seaworthiness to travel beyond the relatively reliable three day forecast window.
