The search for a live aboard trawler continues as we enter our third year of searching. Hoping the market starts to normalize some as Covid fears diminish and inflation and interest rates increase.
I’m currently looking at a Malcom Tennant designed 60’ power cat built by Orrin Bird. Bird apparently built 5-6 Tennant designed cats. The one I’m looking at was apparently his last and the build was documented in web link onthewaterwithcatbird by the Birds partner. This was to be their personal yacht and the build pictures and story were done by his partner. It’s a great story with many pictures over a 6 year, 2 person build, in a Carolina farm Quonset hut. Minimalist build approach for long range cruising and low maintenance. The story unfortunately lacks technical component detail.
I’m wondering if anyone on the forum has experience or knowledge with Birds previous builds they would be willing to share. How did he build 5 previous boats by himself? So far my search has only identified the current cat on the market.
