In The Mainship manual it tells me to make sure when engine and generator are running that the cross over line shut offs "Must be Open" why would this make a difference? reason for asking is I am trying to level the boat and take out the port list by shutting off the crossover - at present the fuel keeps flowing into the port tank, and at fill up it is always the starboard tank that takes fuel and the Port tank is always full. Both tanks are being drawn on for the Main engine. and the starboard tank is drawn on for the Generator, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It may be because of the return fuel. Does it only go into one tank? If it does with the crossover shutoff the return fuel could overflow the tank that is getting the return fuel. Not familiar with your boat’s fuel system but this is what comes first to mind.

yes for sure the return fuel goes back into the starboard tank. 2 Questions Dave

Do you think if the Tanks are 3/4 Full the return would still overfill the starboard tank?
Do you think that I will have any issues with fuel fill if I leave the crossover closed?
Many thanks for your help

sorry should have said flow not fill

I have no idea how much your engine returns to the tank. Our last boat had Lehmans in it and they returned almost nothing. If your engines return a significant amount of fuel then the tank could overflow. We have 6CTA Cummins in our current boat and I haven’t researched how much they return, some future project, and I am just learning about them.

Many thanks Dave i am going to keep an eye on it and see if the starboard tank starts to fill

Keep an eye on the vent since that is where it would run out of if the tank gets overfilled. How much fuel do you burn per hour?
