** Well Mr. Supertramp, if the Algae-X gizmo DID work, it would*<u>really</u> be a miracle.* I once spoke with a salesman for this product at a boat show and he was trying to convince me that algae WAS killed by magnets.* As Mr. Vinny says "it is a little hard to magnetise a living object". *My vote is it's garbage.
* Keep your engine in good repair and your filters clean.*

* Do you want to lose 50 pounds without changing your diet or exercising?* Take "this" pill for a week and it will work..it only costs $50 etc.*
** Do you want to have clean fuel without looking after your fuel tanks or adding a biocide?* Use Algae-X...it only costs $XXX...

No, it is a 50 feet Marine Trader widebody LRC with 2x 135 horsepower Ford Lehman.

You might want to look into the Gulf Coast Filter system. We don't have one on our boat, I have never used, one, nor do I know anyone personally who has one. But they are supposed to do an excellent job of cleaning fuel. If the fuel in your area is often contaminated, a Gulf Coast system (or some other high-filtration system) could be what you need.
And something for you to ponder---- if a weak magnetic field such as the one promoted by Algae-X killed living tissue like algae in the brief seconds the algae was exposed to it, think what the incredibly powerful magnetic fields generated by an MRI machine would do to the human body for the 30 to 45 minutes a person is exposed to them.
Magnetic fuel treatments, either to promote fuel economy or to "clean" the fuel--- are one of those scams that can be explained in such a way to seem believable to a lot of people. Throw in a lot of scientific mumbo-jumbo and an amazing number of people will buy the idea.
But these devices have been tested countless times all over the world and every time they prove to do nothing whatsoever to the fuel flowing through them. Now if the device also incorporates a traditional filter, the filter may accomplish something because it's a filter. But the magnetic aspect of the device is totally uneffective.

A vacuum guage on the filter side, clean fuel and a healthy tank should*prevent most issues. A fuel polishing system, unless it is capable of running while you are underway is doing more harm by removing what little lubricity is left in these new fuel blends. The reason the average fuel polishing system does not work is; the growth at the bottom of your tank remains there while at dockside. It is only once you are underway that any agitation takes place and disrupts the settled mess.
I clean tanks, and we see more issues with the new blends, both gas & diesel these days. Again, "Keep your fuel clean, and your tanks healthy".
