Ocean 40+2 Trawler
Hi everyone,

I own one the somewhat rare Ocean 40 +2 trawlers. It has a hinge to lower the mast, which is pretty heavy. I'm hoping to hear from anyone who either owns an Ocean 40+2 or has any ideas on how to rig a system so I can easily lower and raise my mast. I will be adding a radar soon on the existing mount. The hinge is just above the deck of the fly bridge.

Thanks,
Ken

I had a 40 Albin with a similar setup. I was able to mount a pad eye on the back of one of the molded in back to back flybridge seats. Then a cheap ebay block and tackle rig, a pad wye on the mast as high as I could reach standing. Added a 1/4 line long enough to reach the closed block and tackle.
Lowering to 45 degrees was easy, after that I had to shoulder the mast while wife lowered tje rest of the way ntil it rested on the crutch.
I also made 2 extension cables to keep it at “ half mast” so I could get under 19 feet ( maybe 50 degrees) for the canals and Sag Harbor bridge.
Everything fit in a small plastic bin under the helm seat.

Thanks! I'm adding this to my list of possible solutions. 45 degrees might handle what I need.

I have a winch and fairlead mounted forward near the windscreen that I can use to control the mast.

Hi everyone,
I came up with a solution for lowering the mast on my Ocean 40+2. I used a liner drive accuator from FIRGELLI | 12v & 24v Electric Linear Actuators. I chose a 50" accuator for my rig. It handles up to 200 lbs. It can be set up and stowed quickly. I really like the remote control. Screenshot_20251013-153934.png
