Can anyone recommend a USA source for Microtec Opticlean MC-23 fuel filters? This cross references to a HIFI SN80548. I have a Kabola HR400 in my new to me Kadey Krogen 48 NS.

I have a kabola as well and have an inline filter. Am just using a normal fuel filter, nothing special.

It is an inline filter assembly using a spin on filter.
I would say: find yourself any fuel filter that will fit inline and your Kabola will work fine. Mine has been working great since the year I bought the boat and the Kabola has not even been serviced for many years and that is actually what Kabola advised.

No specific reference for the filter of interest but good prices and lots of good things for hydronic systems on boats not to mention filter kits. I use the Garber filters for my ITR Chinook boiler and they work well, easy to get and easy to service. Jim

Has anyone else done away with the boiler-specific filters and just used another Racor? That's what I did, mostly because nobody could tell me why a boiler-specific filter was any different or better. And I liked the idea of having fewer different filters.

The only thing I have noticed is that the racor plugs up if I let it go more than about a year. My boiler has a return line, so fuel is constantly circulating when the boiler is fired. Plus I expect the cumulative running hours are much more than any of my engines. Other than that it's worked fine.

Great idea. My boiler filter has always wept diesel out the seal on top. Why would the racor plug up and not the original filter? Smaller micron?

I'm not sure. I'm using a 30u Racor filter and think I concluded way back that the boiler filters were similar. I'm using a Racor 500, and perhaps the boiler filter has a larger holding capacity? But they call for annual replacement too. My best guess so far is that this filter just has fuel going through it much more than my other filters, so the asphaltines get collected faster. It's on 24hr/day, 7 days/wk, though obviously has a variable duty cycle.
