Greetings, we recently moved Pearl, our Beneteau Flyer12, from Palm Coast to Jacksonville and now have an issue with the AC circuit, she has 240 VAC & 120 VAC circuits, meter is only showing 86-89 VAC , 240 is ok. We’re getting 120 VAC at the shore power cable, not sure if there is an issue with the Charles ISO or something else. The marina’s recommended electrician was stumped, said maybe the meter is bad. I tried calling 9 marine electricians, no luck.

Boat runs fine, Beneteau France cannot supply me with a schematic for the AC side, Beneteau US only wants to sell me a new boat.

Any recommendations for a knowledgeable marine electrician in the Jacksonville FL area?

Regards ,

Sounds like you are plugged into 208V power which is based off two legs of a three phase Y power system. At the dock you will measure approximately 208V line to line, and 120V line to neutral, but at the end of a longer dock, it will be less. Once you feed the 208V through an isolation transformer, your on-boards "120V" circuits will be 1/2 of whatever the incoming "240V" voltage is. If it's 208V, you will see 104V on the 120V circuits. Add some losses, and 90V or less is not uncommon.

Measure all the points at the shore connection to confirm. If it's 3 phase, L1-L2 will be 1.7 (square root of 3) times L1-N. If it's split phase then L1-L2 will be 2 times L1-N.

Eric Weatherly, New Point Marine. He’s a one man show, a true Boy Scout and that makes him busy. He’s the best. He’s mobile, so you may see his truck at one of the marinas. Leave a note or look for him. He tows a red wagon for his tools when he’s working on the docks.

Thank you, I plug 2 120 VAC cables into the boat, one is marked A/C (air conditioner ) the other is marked power. My meter had always shown circuit 1 120 VAC, circuit 2 257 VAC, that was prior to moving to the new marina. Now I show #1 87 VAC #2 257 VAC.

I’ll try measuring it tomorrow, thx again.

OK, I'm really confused about how your boat is wired, what type and how many shore power inlets there are, and what they power. I thought your shore power connection was 240V.

It sounds you have a unique setup, presumably due to conversion form EU to US power? If that's the case then I think you definitely need eyes on it to figure out what you have and how it's supposed to work.

Thank you Larry, I spoke with Eric today and will follow-up.
