Good thoughts @Diep

My steelie was 40+ years old, built by Burger of WI. Back in it’s prime it cruised to Aussie and back, but it’s prime had passed many moons ago. It’s current owner has poured serious cash into her restoration it it’s still an old boat with issues.

Island Gypsy 40 solo

Does anyone have information of this type of trawler yacht? Build quality? Seems to be quite rare and looks gooood!

My boat is just winterized and this is good therapy!

Found the same boat that you were checking out in 2019 being on sale just now. Has been on sale through this Netherlands based broker for quite some time. HALVORSEN 40 PILOTHOUSE TRAWLER motor yacht for sale | De Valk Yacht broker
I wonder what the asking price was back in 2019. Couldn't find the 2019 ad. You wouldn't remember what it was advertised for back then? Now advertised for 260k€.
It is currently winterized inland Finnish lake area which is relatively near the Baltic sea and my cruising area.

You might find this earlier thread of interest in context of considering this boat.

I cannot say if it is the same boat, the length is a little different, but the appearance sufficiently similar to suggest caution.

Just wanted to repost this Michael Kasten design:

Keel cooled, dry stack, hydraulic winch & bow thruster

The engine room is magnificent

see here:

It really only has 150hrs engine run time on a Tier 2 Lugger.

I did go and take a look & can attest to the very robust systems onboard.

The builder did a fantastic job and the owner has spent the last many years working on systems and interior finish.

I estimate there is 20-25% left on interior cabinetry and other trim to complete. A few other systems to hook-up and then you have a virtually new, very stout Alaska cruiser.

Sorta odd, there doesn't seem to be a table anywhere or a place to put one. Where do you set your dinner plate?

A cool boat I was on in Anacortes. Aluminum and very fuel efficient.
Look at this awesome Custom Long Distance Trawler I found on YachtWorld! https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/2007-custom-long-distance-trawler-9446779/
I also looked at this boat many years ago (2015?) in Anacortes and now I can look at her out the window of DOMINO in Marina Puerto Escondido, Loreto BCS Mexico, where she now lies on the hard and for sale. She made that trip down on her own bottom. I was surprised to see her in a nice anchorage in San Evaristo in BCS Mexico a couple of years ago.
She needs some TLC.

...from Meyer's Chuck!
did they get a sweet roll? We unfortunately did not get to stop due to space....rafted up in a cove stern tied. What a cool place, one you will always remember.

Was shocked to see this boat discussed here at the Palm Beach Boat Show. Pleasant surprise given you almost never see boats like this in the shows anymore.

Needs a big checkbook to get to Palm Beach standards but some people might not need that based on the price. And who cares anyway when its a tool to be used. The hammer doesn't have to be of exotic wood and shiny.

First morning got the walnuts. Decided to stay for another...no walnuts! :cautious:

Lovely. The finish of the hull is exquisite, from the images, and this vessel is almost 80 years old. If we had not found Desiree, I definitely would be looking at this. And it's just around the corner from our mooring in Lovett Bay, and my wife and I have seen her out on the Water a number of times.

The Halvorsen 40 pic resembles the current Palm Beach(GB) range.
We were overseas for 3 weeks. Congratulations on the new boat, did you post about it, if so where?

Here:

I am heading up to Southport, Qld, tomorrow; be there for a week or so, setting up for the work we need to do on the hardstand (Boat Works). More images to come!

I bought this boat a few weeks ago. It does need some interior cabinetry and trim completed. The galley is bigger than designed resulting in the lack of a dining table but that is fixable. We expect to head north to Alaska in June.

Congrats Amos on Boomer.

Sturdy little ship for sure, hope to see you cruising this summer

Such a cool boat, can’t help but romanticize about taking this throughout the NW. Neat video by Off Center Harbor, if you are not a member it is well worth joining. That’s how I tracked my current little trawler down, through OCH.
