Is there anyone that has/had the freezer built into the floor (galley down) ever taken it apart to understand how it is constructed? We have removed the Grunert system and are looking at this location for some batteries. I’m trying to understand what the underlying construction is. Wood box or glass wrapped foam like the fridges? Any insight and or photos would be greatly appreciated.

Floor? Or do you mean the one in the countertop?

If it is actually built into the floor it must be a PITA to access the food in the bottom.

........says the guy with the bad back.......
And that’s one of the reasons the system was replaced with a residential fridge. Says the guy with a really sore back after removing just the upright fridges!

I know I’ve seen pictures posted by someone who removed the under counter freezer. I don’t recall if it was in trawler forum or some other blog. I remember comments of it being unnecessarily overbuilt (aka brick s*t house).

I would have to assume the construction would have been similar for a floor freezer.

It makes you wonder what yacht designers were thinking on this one.
