In Beaufort for a month and trying to pump out. Four marinas in Beaufort that I checked (including the one we're staying in) and all the pump outs are non-operational. Wild as there are lots of boats at anchor for long periods of time and I can't imagine their holding capacity exceeds mine. What is everyone doing? Concerning to be in such an ecologically pristine spot and the town marinas have no means to manage boat sewage. My gripe today.....

I added a type 1 MSD so I didn't have to normally worry about pumping overboard unless in a no discharge zone.

Might there be a pumpout service? Meaning not at a marina or dock, but a boat that comes to you? (I don't know, so just an idea.)

That is worrisome though, isn't it. Don't go swimming.

Should've considered at least one type1 MSD. No pump out boat in the area either. Just utterly surprised that the state (and region) would not do more to protect the environment in this very large boating community. Maybe I am naive....

Have you tried Homer Smith's?

We're across the way at MCYB just now, and the pump-out here is working...

The pump out at Morehead City Yacht Basin (MCYB) is always in working order (it's my home marina). But they run a tight ship there, so that's to be expected.

I too am disappointed that there are no pump out boats in the area. After staying in a town with multiple pumpout services, I realized what a convenience it can be.

NC requires marinas to provide pump out services in some instances, and runs a state grant program to help pay for the service.

Hah! We must be neighbors, just now... at least temporarily...

The Florida Keys got a federal grant to run free pumpout boats, but a big portion of that area is federal waters in the park/sanctuary.

The problem is, everyone is willing to "solve" the problem by giving grants to install pump-outs. But nobody wants to fund the maintenance, or the costs and staff time just to run them. A marina might (grudgingly) allow the state to install one at their location, but they have no interest in tying up staff and dock space operating it. Much easier to just say it's out of service. And if it really does break, even better.

Around here it's worse because just about everywhere along the coast is within a no-discharge zone. People who spent all the money to install a Type I MSD are no better off than the rest of us.

We have that in Puget sound too. Fantastic service. They roam different areas on different days, plan on being at events to support them, or you can call to schedule a pump out. All free. I like to tip of course, I have no idea what they might earn doing that.

@ranger58sb I'll take a dock walk later today and look for your boat. I'm on the D-dock, closest to the port buildings.

Nifty. Think I see your boat... and we're in C61, just inside the Nordhavn on the T-head.

Just returned from a grocery run with our current buddy boat folks...
