Is it possible?

Currently, I have the old Raytheon/Neco wheeldrive with the sprockets, but nothing works - flip the breaker and nada - neither of the head units power on at all and without those, I can't tell if the motor even works. The old owner said he never used it...

I haven't had time to really dig into it and see if I can figure it out - but in the meantime, I have been contemplating other options that would allow me to install and use a more modern system.

Has anyone used or seen installed a linear drive on the quadrant in the aft steering compartment? I checked and there appears to be room, but I'm not sure how they will work with the cable steering.

I've installed a Raymarine linear drive on a sailboat with cable steering. The Jefa tiller arm drive can work too, and a few others.

Should work, my AP is attached by chain under the Flybridge helm. There is an electric clutch on the unit.

Yeah that's where mine is - but no part of it powers on.

I will troubleshoot it of course, but I'm not going to die on that hill...

Check to see if you are getting power. And also you may want to install there. otherwise changing to hydraulic is fairly straight forward. If I ever have to change out the AP, I'll change the steering.
