It's an American/Canadian thing. Maybe more American and yes I still have my hair. Well..at least some of it.

Red Hats
Mount Gay Rum has red hats that have an event name embroidered on them. I think I have somewhere north of 40 of them, most from the Newport to Ensenada race (it’s on April 27 this year). I have a few others: Long Beach YC Congressional Cup, San Diego YC Yachting Cup, a few charity regattas. As mentioned above, I wear mine as a sunshade and to keep my head from sunburn. Also so people can spot me on Opening Day club visits.
You can’t buy these hats from Mount Gay. They are only available at the events where they’re distributed.
As an aside, Mount Gay hats can sometimes be found for multiple hundreds of dollars on EBay.
