My wife, obviously the admiral, who is somewhat apprehensive about extended boating just expressed a sentiment that opens the door to give me much hope. She LOVES GOLF! I love her loving golf as, after my retirement particularly, it gives us each space to go and do. I’m boat shopping seriously and she is supportive, but just this moment she had a friend tell her about a place in/near Stuart, Fl that has 3 golf courses very close to a marina. HELLO! That’s what I’ve been selling ongoing. Year round warm weather and GOLF. This is for US! I can boat, you can play golf year round. NOW she can’t wait. Now my question: Who out there cruises with golf as a serious consideration? We will be east coast and Bahamas cruisers. The more of you who have access to links (pun intended) or knowledge of great spots in our geography to make the admiral happy, the easier my sell for extended participation in my dream! She is very supportive of my quest, I’d really like to make it equally OUR quest. GOLF will do that! I’d love some input.

And, sorry, I already know about Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head. She already plays there 😏, thinking further south, a little warmer in the winter.

There are some number of yacht clubs that are also golf courses. I would expect you'll find one or two in most cities. As an example, I own a slip in Gulf Harbour Yacht and County Club.

I use to cruise 9 months per year and have a home in Fort Myers. They accept live aboards as people like me who own a boat and just need a place to keep it. During Covid, demand was high enough that they could afford to only have annual contracts. Don't know if that's changed.

Anyway, this wasn't a push toward Gulf Harbour, but more about checking out yatch clubs.

Hammock Beach in Palm Coast Florida. Never been there and I know just the marina is pricey but you do have access t some of the amenities included (I heard). Some members here used to talk about it. Right on intracoastal.

If retired military or disabled vet there are a few bases with golf courses. Patrick SFB near Cocoa Beach has a marina and golf course right next to one another.

I'm not as familiar with boat/ golf in the sunny south as the NE in summer. A cruising friend and I golfed during a summer loop cruise - Lk Ontario, St Lawrence, Lk Champlain, Erie Canal. Canada's Rideau & Trent Severn canals and Georgian Bay are other locations that could offer the shore excursion / diversion along with some gorgeous cruising scenery.

There were many options that were relatively close by.

It would require her to learn to enjoy cruising with a desired destination / activity in mind.

Golf clubs are just an Uber ride away.

The NE in the summer certainly beats our sweltering days in the South. The prospect of golf year round from a boat has got her most interested!

I think that the whole idea of golf from a boat is somewhat silly but if you get to the Maine coast I can highly recommend the Samoset Resort in Rockland. They have three free moorings for their patrons and a call to the pro shop will get a golf cart brought to the landing at the base of the breakwater for a ride to a beautiful 18 hole course and the availability of their fine 19th hole, the horizon pool and their restaurant and bar/patio. Their are other available courses along the coast but the Samoset does it right.

Several golf courses in and near Daytona Beach. Ex. LPGA lnternational .Daytona golf club. Several marinas also. Including Halifax Municipal North and South, and Daytona Marina and Boat Works. Not sure about live aboard. Good luck

I applaud someone who can afford both GOLF and a BOAT. Further one who seems to have established a conciliation between the 2. Without going into it I can see any number of grey clouds occurring between the 2. Ride with it as long as you can.

As was said, a lot of golf associated with either in marinas or near them so you would have ample opportunities to utilize both of you desires.

I would suggest, based on the Loop and numerous friends who live/golf in FL, that you check out the weather.

FL is sunny, yes, it is also very windy, and the summer will have you inside except for the early and late hrs of the day. My friend who lives in the Villages, renown for golf, only plays early morning. Days its cool it's windy so that is another consideration.

As to boating. We were coming up the eastern coast of FL, at Ft. Pierce and had hurricane winds (77mph) come ripping through the marina. So, there is that. Wind does not make the best boating/golfing weather and there is plenty in FL.

Yes, a lot of people live in FL and play golf & boat, but they know that days are limited for both.

Stuart is a nice town. Have a friend there and he loves it. He is a sail boater, and we didn't get into his usage of the boat due to weather, but my guess is that it is like the Chesapeake, Sailer's sail for about a month on the Chesapeake.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but you should know the cons that go with living/boating in FL

Funny, I never said I could AFFORD both golf and boating, but more importantly I’m thinking I can’t afford not to! Thanks for your feedback. Related to wind and heat, we are pretty much Beaufort, NC based, and are pretty used to hot as hell with matching humidity to melt most. Luckily, we, at least, don’t have gnats. Just yesterday we were talking to a neighbor who said our area is rated by NOAA to be the windiest on the east coast. Not sure if it’s true or not, but we’ve got to be close to the windiest. It almost always seems to blow, with our eastern jutting coastline running west to east, facing our predominate SW blow, my wife is already acclimated pretty well to those challenges. When retired, flying, boating, golf, fun, etc. are mostly weather dependent, not confined by a schedule, so we’ll just leave early or late if need be. That sure is nice! 😊

What is this "golf" activity you speak of? Sounds like it would take time away from boating so doesn't sound appealing to me...

I sold a Princess MY to a client who wanted it for live-aboard in Naples because he liked their golf courses. After a short while I sold him a bigger Princess. Then not long after, I sold him a Princess 65. He said that he didn't need a bigger boat to accommodate his friends, but there wasn't enough space aboard for all of the golf bags they brought with them. I can tell you more about his boats but nothing about his golf other than he obviously was happy in Naples.

Golf is a nice walk that is unfortunately spoiled by the all of the attention directed towards a little white ball.

It seems many folks don't recognize my tongue in cheek request for help. My intent was a somewhat humorous request for golf courses along the East Coast, and/or AICW. My wife loves golf. I do not play. I love the water and boats, her, not nearly as much, but she supports my dream. My hope was to discover places we can cruise to together, each loving a phase of the cruise, me the water and process, her the destination with a place to play and explore with her golf game, experiencing new courses and making new friends. I think it was a silly light-hearted post initially, misinterpreted by a few, requesting help, to make boating and cruising more enjoyable for my girl. I'd like for us both to look forward to walking down the dock, boarding the boat and going, even if it's for 2 different reasons. Bottom line, boating for me will never be what I want if we are not together enjoying. Thanks to all for their suggestions as to towns and courses proximate.

I get it I do. Your wife likes golf and you like fishing. I like fishing too - :)

Since you are on the east coast shouldn't be a problem. Dingy for fishing and uber for golf.

She can regale you with tales of birdies while you can fry up the days catch over cocktails.

Have her select a deck box that is golf-bag heaven. Temp/moisture controlled, electric lid. Etc.
Then go boating
