I've heard. Both have approximately 1,400 hours on them, which seems low for their age. They do still get the boat up on plane, though, so I'm hopeful they're in well enough shape and that our 7-9 kt cruising lifestyle will keep them happy for a couple of years while I look for some used 6bt engines.
I've a friend with a Tolly 44 who removed the gas V8s and installed 6BTs. What a great setup. Are your V8s a Crusader marine engine? If so, they are a very nice setup and if properly maintained by the previous owner could yield a fair amount of life yet. Check those Al fuel tanks carefully.
 
If they’re handled gently, the 8.2s will last a long time.
Pushing a heavy boat on plane is not gentle.
