I'm putting in a Raymarine autopilot on sunshine daydream, a 2001 mainship 390 trawler.

I need to pick the unit and buy it in a hurry to take advantage of West Marine sale ending tomorrow and I can't get to the boat.
I need to know the hydraulic capacity in order to pick the drive:
  • Type 1 Drive 80-230 cc (4.9-14 in^3)
  • Type 2 Drive 230-350 cc (14 -21 in^3)
  • Type 3 Drive 350-500 cc (21-30.5 in^3)
Of course the owner's manual doesn't say.

If anyone knows the hydraulic capacity or has a raymarine autopilot (ev-200, ev-400) I'd appreciate any feedback.

Is there any disadvantage (other than $$) on picking a drive that is "too big" ?

thanks in advance

I dont know but most likely 1 or 2. So perhaps buy both and return the other if you dont get a solid answer in time?

fwiw, pilot 34 is a type 1. i think you want to match pump capacity to cylinder ram size.

If I remember right my '99 350 has the older version of Seatstar BA175-7. It's 13.7ci which is at the limit of the type 1 pump that's on the boat. I ended up just ordering the ev150 pack w/o drive since my use case is just local trips.

The answer ..... I managed to get to the boat.

Ram was made by Teleplex (canada) and now made by SeaStart. Model BA175-7TM Pn# HC5319

It's listed as 13.7 inch displacement. (Someone above has a good memory).

That's at the high end (4.9-14 in^3) of a Type 1. I would have thought that bigger (Type 2) would be better, but raymarine says no.

I'm going EV-150 with type 1 drive.
Thanks for the answers.

P.S. It turns out that West Marine's super deal excludes raymarine products..... sigh
