I have a Yanmar get home engine and control panel as my wing engine. The system is 12V. In an attempt to fix another problem I applied 24V to the control panel and smoked the tachometer. The integrated hour meter works, but not the engine RPM pointer. New old stock tach cost $707 on ebay (it's nolonger available from Yanmar).

Can I repair the broken tach? Maybe replace a fried electrical component? I don't know how they work and haven't torn it apart yet. Not sure if I can without breaking it.

Any help would be, well, helpful. Thanks!

I would contact Southern Speedometer Tampa Florida and/or Florida Speedometer, Stuart Florida. Both of these companies specialize in repairing tachs and dashboard instruments. Let us what you end up doing.

I called Florida Speedometer and they don't work on marine products. They recommended Lauderdale Speedometer. They told me how to check to make sure the signal is getting to the tach. If the tach is bad, then it's less costly to replace than to repair.

I have used Lauterdale Speedo and was very pleased with their work. Fast and reasonable.
