Our hot water was not getting to the faucets this morning. The water in the tank is hot, 120 degrees. After checking the heater and connection, the water was hot to the 1st tee (laser thermometer). I tapped lightly with a hammer and the closest faucet got hot, the nest tee went to the head sink and the shower. The shower gets hot but the sink is still just warm.

Does anyone have any ideas?

TIA

Im thinking you have debris in the lines based on tapping the line and hot water moving along to the closest faucet. First thing I would do is remove all the screens at the faucet so debris can blow by unimpeded. Insecpect the screens to verify if there’s any debris. Let us know how that went and we can go from there.

Thanks the reply. Turns out the mixing vave on the shower was on (tgete is a extra gate valve between the shower head and the mixing valve that was allowing coldwater to enter the hot water pipes

I've had this kind of thing happen on my boat..

The kids use the transom shower to wash their hair and rinse off after a swim. The transom shower is the standard unit with a separate hot and cold knob to adjust the water temperature and a trigger on the wand so that you don't waste water.

The problem is that when you let go of the trigger the water stops. The kids think that releasing the trigger, just by itself is enough and don't bother to turn the knobs (valves) off.

Then what happens is when you use any sink on board you get only warm water out, with just the hot valve open.

Opening the hot water causes a drop in pressure in the hot water piping and in this condition, the cold water through the connected and inadvertently left open cold and hot water valves in the transom shower, partially fills in this pressure drop with cold water. Voila! only warm water out the hot side.

Closing the transom shower's valves fixes the issue.
