Good day to you all!

My name is Chris Hunsaker, and together with my lovely wife Liz we are in search of a trawler to cruise the Chesapeake and do the Great Loop. We have joined the AGLCA and appreciate all their valuable information.

We have been looking primarily at Kadey-Krogen 42s but are open to other makes and appreciate any advice forum members might have.

As background, I am a retired US naval officer and Liz is a retired French teacher. We retired in 2015 and lived in France full time for six years on a Linssen Grand Sturdy 33.9, on which we cruised the waterways of France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany.

Thank you for accepting us as forum members.

Welcome aboard the TF, Chris, and good luck with your search. You can hardly go wrong with a well-maintained KK-42. The Linssen line are interesting and handsome boats - you have good taste.

Welcome aboard, Chris, and thank you for your service.

Triton Yacht Sales here has a nice looking Kadey Krogen 42 listed; Julie Rahm is a first rate broker.

By a strange coincidence, we have a Linssen Dutch Sturdy 32 at our dock in Oriental, NC. Last spring we cruised up the Dismal Swamp Canal, Chesapeake Bay to Potomac River and spent Memorial Day weekend at Capital Yacht Club in Washington. We've also enjoyed chartering on the Canal du Midi.

We owned a dozen sailboats before buying the Linssen; our favorite being a Krogen 38 cutter, the only sailing yacht Kadey Krogen produced.

Looks like a very nice Dutch Sturdy. Here is a picture of our Linssen. We miss her.

Chris and Liz,
Welcome to TF. It's been my go to source for great info, insights, and advice on trawler living. Also retired Navy officer and looked at the KK42 & DF44. Settled on a DeFever. Happy to chat about trawler choices, and lessons learned. Feel free to PM. Although you are a bit south of me, I do get down to your neck of the woods occasionally for work as well. We love the KK42, but it was a challenge to find one that was stabilized and reasonably priced. We were also adamant about two heads, and full displacement, which further limited our choices.

Welcome, I have a 1985 40' Ocean Alexander Europa Sedan I may have to reluctantly let go. She is beautiful, as near perfect as possible. Contact me directly at 727 804 2200. Text first. As I don't answer unknown numbers.

Here is another option. Older, and not as well know, but a nice looking boat, for sale in our neighborhood:

Those old Thompsons are solid, unpretentious boats, built in Titusville, FL. Many were commissioned as commercial fishing boats. 15' beam means ample space in the engine compartment to maintain twin six-cylinder diesels.

Welcome, shipmate. Retired USN 0-5 in 1989 here and living the good life.

As i said in another post, buying a boat is similar to buying a vehicle. You will probably pick the one you like the looks of.
When you get on the Chesapeake we are on the Sassafras. Drop me a line and we'll talk the Loop, we did ours over 8yrs.

Thank you, Mark. We also want full displacement, single engine, two staterooms and would prefer two heads but could get by with one. I will check out DeFever.
