Thanks for allowing us to participate. We have been boaters for many many years and this is our first trawler. Although not a true “trawler” for most, this will lead us to a future retirement boat in a few years. Our home port is St Johns Yacht Harbor in Charleston SC.

Everyone is Welcome. You sound like you will eventually come to the "dark side".

We’re heading through your neck of the woods shortly. Been to city dock once and it scared the pants off me. Can you share any tricks beyond just waiting for slack tide? Thanks

We stayed at Ashley one winter, next door to City Dock. Far as we could figure out, slack tide is the solution. (Ditto at Beaufort Town Dock.)

But then it was easy, at slack. We never had to do it, but you can anchor across the river for a while, if you need to better time your approach at slack.

We've stayed at OP's marina a few times over the years, too. Nice place. Slack doesn't hurt there, either, although I don't remember it being quite as important...
