Hi

Richard and Diane here. Originally from the UK then moved to America, 30 years later we decided to leave. Now moving to Spain. We have been living full time on pour over and truck for the last 3 years and have a few more trips planned (Africa, Argentina-Chile) before adding a Trawler to our travel plans.

We originally planned to go sailing first on a Cat but decided to do the hard slog of the truck first. Starting the research and education now in case we want to build new.

Plans would be to do more costal than blue with the med first, then through France up to Norway etc. Then depending on the boat, sail to USA or ship it.

Thank you, even the smallest of Trawlers will seem like a palace.

It’s interesting how many people point out the pitfalls of boat ownership but haven’t lived on an Overlander… Each has their own issues and challenges.

Same pitfalls perhaps? Can you be more specific about what you mean by pitfalls? If you can’t fix a boat you can’t fix an Overlander either.

The fixing isn’t the issue, Im capable, and as they say, an ounce of maintenance….

It’s about mindset. I recall years ago meeting a guy in an RV. He was Canadian and had at least a $1.5M Prevost. He told me to never buy an RV “ Owning an RV is like owning a house that’s in a permenent tornado and earthquake”

Things will go wrong, weather will disrupt, people and systems will let you down. But that is the price you pay. The alternative is to sit at home and do nothing, no thanks.

One thing I wont miss, is driving your home down highways and narrowly missing idiots texting!

Welcome aboard.
Lots of travelling I see. The Med is a beautiful place to visit and you can spend a lot of time visiting the islands. I assume that you, living in Spain, don't have to deal with the 90 days Schengen rules. If so you can spend a few years in the area of Croatia / Greece / Turkey, you won't be disappointed.
And if you will be looking for a trawler next year, we may have one for sale for you. We are searching for a different boat in the 65 - 70' range, moving up from our Defever 49. Our Defever (fully stabilized and self supporting) is perfect to move from island to island, but we are planning to start using the next boat as sort of an apartment on the sea, basically staying in one location for prolonged periods of time.

I get your meaning now. I was an avid backpacker and was perfectly content in a tent. The boat was a huge upgrade-similar adventure, just nicer accommodations.

Yes, love traveling but the Overland Truck space can get tiresome after a while. Good to know about your boat but 1 year is a bit soon for us., We need to do some training and a charter/Crew first.

Whether water or asphalt they're still out there. And going out of their way to do harm in any way possible. There are countless stories of people being run over on their boats by people not paying attention.
