Well we have put our home up for sale, yard sales to get rid of all our junk, to retire to a trawler, specifically a Grand Banks. Looking for a 36/42 woodie.

Welcome aboard. You must be looking for something to do if you are buying a woodie. Make sure you are able to get insurance and a slip before you buy. Getting more difficult to find either with a woodie.

Curious why you’re set on a woodie? I have seen a couple wood Alaskan models that look nice. On Craigslist there is a 36’ Grand Banks woodie in Skagway and a Defever Alaskan woodie in Juneau.

Wood can be made into a beautiful boat.

Wood can keep you busy.

Fiberglass can be made into a beautiful boat.

Fiberglass can keep you busy.

MOF - Any type boat can keep you busy

Question Is: How much do you want to have the boat keep you busy and how much do you want the boat to offer you relaxation??

Recommendation: Buy a good condition well built fiberglass boat. Your relaxation quotient will go way up!

A GB woodie for the learning experience and I’d like to try my hand at restoring one. Yes I want to cruise around, explore the PNW, but work on the boat while at anchor, on the hard or marina at times.

I’ve enjoyed working on most anything with a engine on it, and the learning exp involved. Have good mechanical, electrical and woodworking skills. Have been a electronic tech, carpenter, plumbers helper, electricians helper, built my own home and so forth. Many years as a heavy equipment operator, dozers, trackhoes, motor graders, so a decent sized boat does not intimidate me.( I’m no idiot either, I will damn well respect the boat and the seas)

Single, plenty of time to fill, I’ve spent time in worse accommodations then a woodie tied up on the water. Which for me seems like heaven, lol

Sounds like you NEED a woody... more than it needs you! Best Luck!! - Art
