Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see a thread on these Forums regarding the Synco XTalk intercom headsets www.syncoaudio.com. These are designed for movie sets and photographers, and other than lack of water resistance look like they would do the job for a lot less than the Eartec brand. Expandable from 2-13 headsets. They have several one and two earcup models, and include a 3.5mm input jack which some of our members were looking for. The bargain of the century would appear to be a pair of factory- refurbished headsets for $85 on eBay. Some old reviews mention a horrible lag time, which apparently has been sorted out in more recent models. Thoughts?

Haven't tried them but they look plausible and worth a try.

OTOH the pricing seem not to be vastly different, looks like a pair of them is $319 vs $385 for EarTec. Not an exact comparison because that's without aligning details like the batteries and charger, but they seem to be in the same ballpark.

We have always been happy with EarTec, currently using a seven year set that is as good as new with a new set of batteries. But it's not rocket science technology and if doing it again, I might go for the style I prefer. Or might go with tried-and-true, why change

We have a pair of the Synco headsets. Used them for one season so far and are happy with them. There is definitely a bit of lagtime but not noticeable unless you’re watching the other user speak

Let us all know if you give them a try, but if there is the reported latency I would go with the Eartech's (which is what we've been reliably using for 16 years. Distance is another thing to test. Our Eartech's work well when my wife is in the engine room checking fuel levels on the sight gauges during fill ups and I'm on the dock. Also replacement parts - Eartech makes it easy to buy extra chargers, batteries and ear pads. We tried older model Sena motorcycle headsets at one point - liked their construction but not the user interface. Sena has since released a new version for Marine use called Nautitalk and have not tried it but 2 models are around $300 for 2 headsets.
