On a lighter note, we came back from a week long run and the boat was filthy. We broke out every brush, rag, sponge and cleaning device we had aboard and went to town. I look over and my portside neighbor is now washing his boat. Half an hour later, the guy with a sail boat is washing his boat. He never washes his boat. By the time we were done, 5 boats on our dock were getting washed! I guess we guilted them into it?

Too funny!

It’s like yawning, contagious.

In the country club marina where I have a slip and kept my boat, it kind of went the other way. A security person that walked the dock stopped to say he hadn't seen me washing boats in the marina before. I told him I only washed my boat. He apologized for thinking I was hired help. If a neighbor saw me washing my boat and was ashamed of how dirty his was, more likely he would get out his phone than a bucket and sponge.

A similar incident. One of my good friends had a boat at our marina. He's retired from government service. His work there was highly classified; he had top secret clearance. In the evening after dinner he was strolling back to his boat when he was accosted by the security guard and asked "What are YOU doing here?"
His skin color is _____. Fill in the blank.

We used to see this when I lived in New Hampshire. One person would call in a tree service to remove one or two large pine trees. Fast forward several weeks and the tree company would still be on the street working on their 5th house.

Once one person sees how good it looks, they figure "Hey, why not?"
