Lack of a good spot for a tender on our GL33 has been our leading disappointment/inconvenience over the duration of our otherwise successful ownership for the last 15 years. But, it's generally been ok for us because we tend to prefer marinas anyway. Nevertheless, there have been occasions where a good dinghy would have been SOOOO nice to have.
I have seen various davit solutions for the GL33 and none of them were worth the expense and effort in my opinion because:
1) The otherwise splendid view aft is mostly blocked, which can severely impede maneuvering
2) I don't like all that "junk" hanging off the back, which is a risk for damage/causing damage while maneuvering
3) When the cockpit storage is loaded for long-term cruising, with a 4-man life raft, 2 folding electric bicycles and all manner of other "necessary" stuff, the aft end of the boat sits low in the water. Hanging a dinghy, and davits off the back would only exacerbate this.
4) Dinghy & davits aft would lead to a notable increase in marina costs, as most marinas (at least where I cruise) charge based on LOA.
Most GL33's have solar panels on top, so that rules out storing a dinghy on the roof. If shade hits even the smallest portion of the panel area, total solar production is disproportionately and severely diminished.
Putting a dinghy upside down on the cabin top obstructs the view from the helm.
I've considered positioning a dinghy in the cockpit horizontally across the transom, but I've been unable to find a quality dinghy capable of carrying two people this short. I've found some that are close, but not close enough. I keep looking. Maybe someday I will find one.
My workaround solution for many years has been to carry a cheap inflatable dingy for two in a carrying bag stowed under the cockpit with oars that can be disassembled and stowed together with it. Also an electric pump for inflation. But on the few occasions we've used it, it's proven to be a time consuming nuisance to set up and even more of a nuisance to clean, dry, deflate and re-pack when finished. Nevertheless, having this sub-optimal solution has been better than having no solution at all.
