Engine: Ford Lehman 120 2715e

I have a leak in the fuel pipe from the injector pump to where it enters the engine just under the valve cover. I spoke with Brian at American Diesel and he recommended I replace the fuel pipe with an approved hose and provided a kit for such a replacement. Kit is pictured.

The kit is simple, clamp a nipple at each end of the hose then screw one end into the engine and the other into the injector pump. But I am unsure exactly which parts need to be removed in order to attach the hose on either end.

Looking at the injector breakout (image attached), should parts 9K564, 9K540 and 9K532 be removed??? Given the diagram I do not see where the hose nipple could be screwed in?

I have the same issue in looking at the breakout for the injector pump (image attached)

I am obviously new to engine repair but really feel that I am missing something that even I should understand. I also realize that I can contact American Diesel for help, but I’m hoping to gain a better understanding of this before contacting them so as to better understand any directions they are able to give me.

I really appreciate the time all of you spend helping me with such issues!

Somebody in the chain of communication is misunderstanding the problem because that kit is not what you need for the stated problem.

There are six steel pipes leading from the injector pump to the injectors via the above-mentioned entry under the valve cover of a Lehman 2715E. Are you saying one of these pipes is leaking? If so, it would be a fine mist due to the extremely high pressure in the pipe - that's why they are steel.

Can you send a photo of where the leak is?

The kit Brian sent you looks like something that might work between the lift pump and the injector pump but certainly NOT beyond the injector pump.

I am speaking from 29 years of taking care of a pair of these fine engines.

As Rich says. That kit would replace the low-pressure supply line from lift pump to filter, or from filter to injector pump, but none of the high-pressure lines. It also could connect the return line from the leak-off pipe.
A pic of the leaking area would be good.

You guys are so right! There was obviously a miscommunication between myself and American Diesel; I did contact them and confirm that his kit did not replace the high pressure fuel pipe.

So my question is no longer how about installing the hose, but it’s now how to stop the smoke/oil leak; here’s the real issue:

Two of the fuel pipes that leave the injector pump are smoking where they enter the engine right below the valve cover, and one of these lines has a leak. [One of them is pictured below.]

I have been told that 9k540 and 9k532 in the attached breakout picture need to be replaced. Is that the best place to start? And ca this be accomplished from outside the engine, or will I need to get to it through the valve cover?

FWIW, I have loosened the inlet adapter nut, loosened the oil seal nut, then retightened them back, but the problem persists.

Thanks so much for all of your help!

Yes. Replace those two seals. That is likely oil smoke from under the valve cover leaking out. Just pull the oil fill cap off your engine sometime when it is warmed up and rolling along at 1600 RPM under load to see a whole bunch of smoke being pumped out of there. The vent system on top of the valve cover needs to be in good shape on these engines.

Thank you @rgano !

Does anyone know where I can get 9k540 and 9k532?
Or the names of these parts so I can better search for them?

The breakout illustration I provided was pulled from another forum and I could not find out where they had gotten the image. Is there a parts list catalogue for the Ford Lehman?

Anybody who has a Ford-Lehman should make friends with Brian at American Diesel at (251) 382-6538. Brian Smith there is the best for knowledge and parts.

If Brian does not have the parts you can try Lansing Marine in the UK, they also have a large stock of Ford Lehman parts or contact De Schiffart in Minnertsga in the Netherlands. They also are able to get to parts that are difficult to find.

Rich mothered a beautiful GB for many years and knows what he is talking about. I also have owned my GB 42 for 20 years. So yes, Brian is absolutely your best source for advice and parts. If it weren't for him, Many of us Lehman owners would have given up. Am Diesel also creates rbetter replacements for things like the water pump drives and the fuel return. Good lu,ck and enjoy these4 antique hunks of iron and steel. They are wonderfully sturdy engines. You will find that 1500 to1750 is all the RPM you need.
