    • For your own security, do NOT include your e-mail or phone number in your ad. Instead request that interested parties contact you via PM (private message) to provide owners contact info.

    • Insists on conducting negotiations via email or text rather than PM

Selling the coolest boat there is, Holly Lynn.
Boat is located on the hard in Jersey City, NJ. Price is $15k.
I have the same story as many of us, too many projects and too little time to really work on them as I'd like to, so I have regretfully decided to offer this boat up for sale.

Holly Lynn is a 1979 Outer Reef 26 Trawler Tug. Here are some details:
  • Hull: very solid and overbuilt trawler tug, serial number XRJ001040379 (XRJ is Outer Reef Marine started business 10/20/78, ended 03/02/87), 00104 is the serial number from the manufacturer, 03 is the month of certification, 79 is the year model.
    • Hull is structurally fine no apparent serious damage no issues, but it needs to be scraped and painted and everything checked below the waterline, and it needs to be painted above the waterline. I found and have attached a stainless steel railing topsides that fits perfectly and replaces the lifelines (those are also still there).
    • Has a great rear platform, and davits. Needs varnish and paint though.
    • It needs basic but difficult scraping or blasting and cleaning and painting and varnishing on the hull, below and above the water.
    • It needs windows. The windows are some kind of plastic and are glazed. All flat windows so they are easily replaced.
  • Engine: Rebuilt marinized Isuzu "Pisces" 60HP inboard diesel with new fuel system (including injection pump and injectors, newer tanks, etc), and cooling system (including impeller and heat exchanger brand new), and head rebuilt and a lot more on the engine (all new hoses, all new wiring). The engine runs great and starts right up every time.
  • Transmission: BORG WARNER 72C Velvet Drive.
    • Transmission is all there and works, linkage is good, controls good etc - but it's slow to go into gear at times (takes 5 seconds, which of course isn't good on a boat).
    • I bought a full rebuild kit for the transmission ($300) but have not yet installed it. I would recommend it be done.
  • Electrical: All the wiring was removed because it was a mess and old. All the wiring to the controls and engine was replaced. Both house and starter batteries are new, all battery cables are new, has 2 bank battery charger, has ACR, has two separate solar battery chargers, both battery banks are fused and so on. I rebuilt the DC panel with new breakers and all new wiring, and used BlueSea components including a Dual Circuit+ battery switch. I replaced the AC panel with a Blue Sea panel and breakers. AC has shore charge receptable and galvanic isolator. Replaced AC wiring to the fridge and to a single outlet (only those for now). Electrical is a very solid foundation, but other wires will need to be run to other components later (lights, galley, head, etc) as all old wiring was removed.
  • Interior:
    • V-berth forward, decent shape, lots of storage, good portal/window (looks newer)
    • Salon shape and structure is solid. I redid 95% of the floor (heavy floor panels that are insulated, and have a teak veneer, I sanded, epoxied, varnished, all the floor except one small section which I cut out because it was rotted [8" x 6" area, very small]).
      • Salon has a fridge that works (runs on both AC and DC, nice)
      • Salon does not have seats
    • Hanging locker and head (across from each other) are aft of the salon.
      • Hanging locker is fine except for the top which has some water damage (topside dripping leak, it's plywood though easy to fix).
      • Head has a great teak door and is a decent size. Comes with toilet with built in small holding tank (it's a nice unit I don't have the model, but will get it). All cleaned and disconnected. All plumbing hoses removed. Wet head also has a shower hose (again, disconnected but it's there).
    • Galley and dining table area aft of the head/locker.
      • Sink and accessories are there, but it's mostly a mess and would be easier to rip it all out and build something (or get something at Ikea).
      • The dining table is there, and drops down to the rear settee bench to make for another berth. Could sleep two there.
    • Plumbing: All other interior plumbing removed, it has a nice condition newer water tank (disconnected) and a nice separate newer Seaward s700 hot water tank that draws heat from either electricity (shore) or the engine (also disconnected).
    • Has a nice cockpit area aft, and then a nice exterior seat forward.
  • Anchor: decent anchor chain and a few anchors.
  • Other electronics: Raymarine Sportpilot autopilot, Raytheon L365 fish finder, Raytheon VHF radio, Standard Horizon gpschart 170c - all this is disconnected and in a box but was in the boat. Comes with it, but it's all pretty old and I'd probably throw it all out and replace. New Rule bilge pump 2023.
  • Other random: has the mast that came with these boats, has the tug stack but it doesn't have a lid (originally they did), has an RV style AC unit but I never tried plugging it in (and would probably throw it out and replace). Has all the trim and teak and wood that has been removed from a lot of the interior places.
The project part is the hull work and scraping and painting and so on, noted above; the transmission noted above; and then essentially rebuilding/reworking all the interior aft of the salon (and seats and cleanup fore of the salon) also as noted above.

Overall I've done a ton of work and I love the boat. It's well built, it's got style, it's got great bones as they say - and now has a solid engine. It will make a great project with potential for good return and a lot of enjoyment for someone willing to put in some work.

I have a clear NJ title and own the boat and am ready to sell. More info and more pics available on request.

What an interesting little boat! What's up on top of the deck house- no ending control up there, is there?

Charlie. Meant 'Engine' control, thx. What happened to the salon furnishings/bulkheads? Why was the salon sole soft? No offense, just interested...

No offense at all. I'll add more pics here but the floor was not soft no, it was just really ugly. It had cheap vinyl tile on it and I was planning to buy some laminate flooring or something, but when I took up the tile there was actual teak and holly sole beneath it. The teak and holly is a 1/4 or so veneer of course but it was great, so I decided to clean that up (glue remover

to get the glue off, sanded it, epoxied it, then varnished it on top of the epoxy to protect from UV). There is one section of the sole that has a dark oil stain about 10" across, which I tried to clean but couldn't get out, so I sanded it and made sure it was all solid and just kept it, it looks good to me (and is now epoxied over and so on, part of the floor).

Also in the pictures you can see I removed some of the veneer from the cabin walls. It is a 1/4 plywood veneer with sort of a really thin teak on top. I kept all the pieces, but removed that to get to the outer edges of the floor pieces with sanding/epoxy/etc.

No engine controls up top, nope. However, I've seen several pics of Outer Reef 26s where that was done.

All the furnishings/bulkheads are there. I removed a lot of the trim (marked each piece with a marker on the back side as I went), and the ceiling liner which was falling down, but the actual hanging locker and head and front v berth with bulkead and galley furniture and salon seats are there (with drop down table that makes another berth). It's all old and made of plywood with teak trim, and I was planning to rip it out and replace it, but I haven't done that yet, it's there.

Price reduced to 10K.

A few people previously reached out and were interested but were farther away and we couldn't make it work, so price reduced for quick-er, closer, potential sale.
Next step if she doesn't sell will be to move her to Georgia where I have some property and can finish the project, and good leads or notes about transporting such a boat would be appreciated!

thanks

Charlie,

Have you moved the boat yet? I plan to be in the area in the next few weeks and would be interested in checking it out if it is still in NJ.

Thanks,

Tony

Hello Tony, no I haven't moved it yet. I'll be around town until mid December and after that out of town for a few weeks and I'd be happy to show it to you.
