I've been on a lengthy search, and I'm liking the KK42 lately. However, looking at the fly bridge ladder, it looks a little too steep and narrow treads for a 75 pound dog to get up and down. Is there a way to modify or replace the ladder with something more dog friendly, or add one on the side?

There is a guy on here selling a ladder for just that purpose, built for a swift trawler I think .... check the classifieds or search? Good luck!

I like pictures. Looked at a few 42 KK photos and it looks like a step system would work on either side from outside pilot house doors up to flybridge. If I had that boat I would make it permanent on the least used side.

I made a ramp to lay on the ladder on one side. I lined the boards with exterior carpet and added slats at 10" centers to help the dogs foothold. My 75# dogs go up and down it with ease even under way. The ramp itself was two 6" x 1" pressure treated umber with a couple of cleats on the underside to hold them together. I put padding on the deck and the top step and lash the top of the ramp to the top step and ss support. Humans can also negotiate the ramp if needed😀. Good luck.

Sangraal - I am having trouble picturing this. A photo or two would really help.

Hi Sangraal,
We have a border collie that we have to lift up and down. Your solution sounds a go.
Any chance of a picture ?

This is the best I have today. Very simple. This is on our Kadey Krogen 54. Hope it helps

You might think of a ladder that folds up sideways against the side of the pilot house when not in use. And it could be relatively narrow with a rail to keep the dog from falling off with netting between the rail and the ladder. By the way, my 1987 KK42 #121 is for sale. Located in Ft Myers FL.
