You guys realize that it isn't an unusual business model at all for a manufacturer to sell through a dealer network. In fact the opposite is unusual for a well established brand.

Do you buy direct from Garmin, ReLion, Raymarine, Yanmar, CAT, Sidepower, Onan, Fisher-Panda, Mastervolt, Furuno, Icom, Maxwell, etc etc?
Agreed. Selling only through distributors is common. For a company like Epoch with plenty of competition where it's easy to just order online it does require making sure there are enough distributors that are easy to order from, however.

Yes but I still go to the manufacturer for support. Seems like the claim here is that the retailer will provide better support, which is highly doubtful in my experience.

He was whining a bit more on that for some reason. He had 4 different V2's in his possession and all the other ones worked perfectly. But he chose to make a video focused on the one that bricked and subsequently had issues. The 48 volt batteries sent to him were random off the shelf and were some of the first ones. Had he been a customer, Epoch would have just sent him a warranty replacement for it.

They Really didn't work fine, Capacity seemed low

I dont remember what was on the video but after the update the capacity was restored on the 1st 48 volt battery at 102.xx AH.

I have a 48 volt on my bench for the last month and have capacity tested it about 15 to 20 times doing various experiments. Each test was between 103.75 and 104.5 or so. Keep in mind the 48 volt has 100ah cells..not 105.

The 460ah routinely makes 470-475ah on various youtube tests.

I consider it another case of bad news travels fast.

The Epoch app may have some quirky style cues, but it is superior to the EcoWorthy app and I use only the Epoch app to monitor my EcoWorthy batteries. Just sayin'.

Does the Overkill Solar app work with the V2 batteries? It does with the Essentials, and is far better than the Epoch effort.

Will prouse Is highly thought of in the community of solar and lithium batteries. I've watched a lot of the videos and he seems to call them as he sees them. You can all believe what you want, But For me there's too many other good options Is then to spend my money on something I'm not sure of

Overkill will only work with the Epoch Essentials or any other battery with JBD or maybe even JK BMS

Overkill works with EcoWorthy batteries, but it is overkill. If you need it, you need it, but I found it to be too much.

On the Pro V2, any idea what the spec on the internal fuse is? Used to be class T but now? I'm wondering how this relates to the new E-11 requirements.

So keep in mind that when the V1 and the V2 were built they included a fuse solely for the purpose of a complete engineered electrical product. Not for the satisfaction of any external rules such as ABYC. As such the fuse was spec'ed for a complete failure of all internal components. They pretty much nailed it. But it wasn't even disclosed to buyer at that time.

Then once Ben Stein figured out there was a Class T-ish fuse in there with a 50k AIC all of us boaters made the proclamation that that discovery would likely suffice for ABYC AIC requirements. It was just a coincidence.

Then the V2 came out and again the engineers spec'ed the fuse. However the fuse manufacturer does not want the details disclosed due to its proprietary design. We tried to get the details on the fuse many times but could not. So when asked I had to tell everyone that the fuse is (still) designed as a battery failsafe...not an ABYC requirement. As such you still need to comply with ABYC requirement...even though that fuse would likely satisfy the requirements. But if you cant provide specs you cant claim to satisfy the requirements of ABYC.

As a result of all this, the next iteration of these marine batteries will have a standard Class T fuse contained inside the battery under an accessible and gasketed see through plastic cover. Either a Littelfuse or Bussman (Blue Seas). One that you can find locally. Another person and I closely aligned with these batteries pushed for that hard.

Thank you for that. Any rough guess on the timing for the next gen? It's next winter/spring for my major DC system upgrade.

Soon. I am hoping to have a prototype in my hands in the next few weeks. The first versions will be 300AH with Victron comms. Maybe 2 months? There will be some Beta testing for sure so we will see how that goes.

I like that they are going to have a 300ah version in addition to the 460ah. I helped a buddy with a system upgrade last winter and we very well might have gone with the Epoch..... but he wanted two batteries vs. a single one (which I heartily agreed with) and two 460ah was just too large/heavy/over-the-top for his boat and use case.

I agree. I really like the 300ah form factor. And doing 2, 3 or 4 of them (600-1200ah) will work for the vast majority.

I agree. I like my 300's, 4D size and weigh 60 pounds. I can do it myself w/o hired help

I'll admit my 460s sucked to get into place, but that was mostly because they're laying on their sides so the handles weren't helpful for the last bit. They're still lighter than the AGMs they replaced though and when upright they weren't too bad to move. I don't expect to need to move them again for quite a while, so I'm not worried about it.
