You don't say what year, but I'm assuming it is fiberglass and not wood. Arthur DeFever designed boats but did not build them, although he did contract to build a few production lines in the early years. Sometimes "built by" names attached to boats are actually the broker or importer who branded the boat. I have DeFever's build records from 1940 until 2005. There are no boats listed as being built by Sea Stella. In the late 1970s and early '80s, there were nearly 1400 aft-cabin trawlers in the 38ft-40ft range (38s are often called 40s, despite DeFever's design length designation). Official DeFever designs in this range were built at various boatyards in China, Mexico and the US including but not limited to Jensen, CTF Marine, Miracle Boat, YuChing Taiwan, and Universal Boat Company (successor to Oriental Boat Company that built most of the early wooden DeFevers). It was a heyday for recreational trawlers so there were also many boatyards building and importing unlicensed DeFever copies, a testament to their unmatched perfection.
