I have a friend who has this system on his boat and it recently stopped working.
The system is a "power steering" system made in Australia. There is an electric pump which runs continuously when the ignition is on and somehow acts on the helm pump to give power assist. There is also a solenoid valve block in the system for the autopilot to actuate the rudder.
The electric pump seems to come on intermittently, or not at all, and seemed to "bog down" when it decided to run while I had a brief look at it.
The owner said that he noticed the pump reservoir level was low and that the remaining contents seemed to have turned to gum.
Does anyone have any experience with this system?
Regards,
Nick
