See Ken William's new blog video following his trawler years on his Nordhavn 62 and 68, Grand Banks 60 and now his 'new' 2003 Moonen, North Star. Ken and his wife know Trawler life!

Mooney builds very nice ships. I have lusted after several including a beautiful 68.
There was a sister ship to Ken’s boat, a 28 meter beauty called Lakesider (formerly Poseidon) moored at Puerto Escondido, B.C.S. Mexico when we were there a couple months ago. It was dandy,

Talk about stretching your legs Fantastic!

I am the owner of the Moonen 90 (I am Ken Williams) in the video. If anyone has questions about Moonen, Nordhavn, the Grand Banks 60 or international cruising in general, I'm happy to answer.

I just discovered this forum and am looking forward to exploring all the messages.

Welcome Ken. Looking forward to the yard updates on your blog. We're admirers of all your boat selections, and especially curious about the Moonen and what you discover as the pros and cons between the builds. Also, where are you putting the jacuzzi? : )

Hiya Ken. You had me at "we don't go anywhere boring". Looking forward to more videos!

-Edit: moved to the welcome thread.

Hmmm... Not sure what you mean about "... between the builds ..." .. Between what builds? At this point, I've spent almost no time on our new boat, and have never cruised on any of the Doggersbanks.

Strangely, we were aboard the sister boat of the boat we bought (Moonen 90 Lakesider), but only for about 15 minutes. At the time we had no idea we'd someday own a Doggersbank by Moonen and didn't take the opportunity to look through the boat.

I am expecting to be impressed with the new boat. The engine room is extremely well put together with lots of attention to the small details (anti-chafing, access to equipment for maintenance, beautifully done wire runs). I'm very impatient to get the boat out on the ocean and see how it feels.

The hot tub is going at the back of the fly bridge where the sun pad is. It has been a HUGE project and probably the shipyard and our new crew think all of the focus on the hot tub is silly. But, oh well. We bought the boat to have fun, and until you've been anchored in some off-grid location, sitting in the hot tub, sipping an adult beverage, you don't really "get it."

I get the hot tub plans. We immensely enjoyed the tub on Aqua Mare, a 165' CRN super yacht in the Galapagos (run by Aqua Expeditions). Sorry about the 'between the builds' confusion. Hoping to learn some of your likes, dislikes, pros and cons, etc. that you've learned in comparing experiences across all your boats.

Welcome Ken! Look forward to learning about the choices you're making on Northstar and how they turn out. Good luck with crew...the right crew will ease the burden of cruising while still letting you and Roberta enjoy the parts you like best. More and more PNW cruisers I know are in your position of moving up to boats with 1-2 crew. It's been difficult to find crew who are capable, enjoyable to be around, and understand how to work with knowledgable, hands-on PNW owners...any tips you have are welcome!

Oh, I get it! Even my ghetto inflatable is fantastic!
