Ceiling headliner repair

Having a problem on each side in the aft cabin on our trawler with the ceiling boards hanging down. I tried strips of 2 inch wide double sided tape and then reinstalling the edge trim pieces however in short order they dropped down again. I suspect I’m going to have to take them completely down and do something but I’m not sure what? I’m also fairly sure I’m not the only one to have faced this problem so I’m looking for suggestions.
