Canada repealing Covid Tests for entry

Good news! I am traveling South through Canada in July, a friend transiting North last summer had the requirement to not set foot on Canadian soil coming up. I never plan to stop transiting, but things could come up making a shore trip necessary or desirable. I have been watching for this change!

The article states that the vaccine mandate remains in effect.

Per an article today on cbc.ca

Canadian government expected to announce tomorrow [March 17] that they plan to remove pre-entry requirements for Covid testing.

Here is the article link:

Note that vaccinations are still required for entry (I assume because article didn’t mention a change to that requirement)

Hooray!
When this is confirmed, I will have a pair of PCR tests and a backup pair of antigen tests for sale.
We are returning to Canada early in April, so went away prepared.

My friend traveled through unvaccinated, no stops in Canada. I have to assume that I will also be able to do the same under the same conditions. I am unvaccinated and have no plans to be.

Perhaps you can travel unvaccinated in transit through Canada, but I would sure check to make sure that info is still current!

The mention in the article of vaccine mandate actually referred to the requirement to be vaccinated before boarding trains and airplanes in Canada - that requirement remains.

Their webpage indicates unvaccinated marine travelers transiting through w/o symptoms "may be allowed". KSanders will be running through in May so I can get some accurate current feedback from him, and have him directly ask questions of the Customs officials he contacts making entry.

That may be if you transit through without going ashore or making any other contact, i.e. “innocent passage”. But I think to checkin to CN you still need to be fully vaccinated.

Here's a quote from Canada's announcement of relazed testing requirements for foreign travelers.

"Generally speaking, unvaccinated foreign nationals are not allowed to travel to Canada. There are some very limited exceptions."

Based on this I think you would be limited to the "innocent travel" provisions and associated rules which are presumably the same as those in force when no check to Canada was allowed at all.

Apparently my friend was issued a decal/plaque to put on the side of his boat. He read the conditions for transit through Canada back to the agent who interviewed them (at a distance, no inspection of the vessel) who held up a placard with the rules on it. He met them at the dock to check through, and that was it...

My last trip through when I checked in it was by phone from Pender Island, no contact was made with any Customs agent. I was traveling alone though, and the only stop I made was Butedale to tie to the float for the night.

Hopefully it will be pretty much the same except I won't tie in Butedale, but will anchor out at another point. Travel straight through with no intermediate stops except to anchor for the night.

Hopefully nothing else too weird will happen to the world between now and then... I am getting tired of the weird ****!

I'll let you know in a few weeks, what if any proof of vaccination is required.
While I am vaccinated and boosted, I do not plan on volunteering that information unless asked a direct question.

But.... Today I am in La Paz getting ready to go have a glass of iced tea at the marina resturant, and then off to dinner of pescado

I think you can expect to be asked for proof of 2 vaccinations. Once that is proven, "have a great trip".

Yes, especially since you are leaving your boat to have the roll chocks mounted in Canada and flying out. Be sure to ask for me though, and of course I will see you before you head out to talk fishing gear. Enjoy Mexico
