Can You Help Me Find A Boat?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Ah yes, the ever popular "leave it up so they call" scheme.

Sorry, that ones been sold but we have others, c'mon down - :)

Exactly.

Our deal fell apart not because of price but terms. There were just too many differences in what we were told by the owners, by their broker, and by our own eyes...

Out of the brokers I have seen recommended, I don't recall any of them offering their expertise or trying to assist anyone on this forum for the 20+ years (previously T & T) that I have been participating. I have sold +/- 250 trawlers without one single customer complaint from either buyer or seller and yet not even a thumbs up here. Maybe my posts aren't as helpful as intended. :-(

It's been many years since we met at TrawlerFests but I recall enjoying our encounters. I've also found your contributions to TF helpful and perhaps a bit brave given you're a broker and few lifelong brokers venture into forums. As you say, you're a rare bird in your contribution.

While I don't know you well enough to endorse, I'm happy to give you a Thumbs Up for your contributions. If I were a buyer, you'd be on my short list of first calls.

Best regards Judy.

Peter

Well, there you have it.

Keep surfing and looking. When you spot something call the broker and make an appointment. Go see some other stuff while you're there. Go walk the docks and chat up some folks.

Sucks that you have to drive a whole day to get to the water, but hey, you're in Atlanta.

Thanks. Yea, we're land locked at the moment. Dad's in assisted living here and I've still got some business stuff to take care of. It won't be forever. Brunswick is about 4 hours away. Not ideal, but we plan to stay on the boat for a week or two at a time when we're down, so it's not the end of the world. Starlink will allow us to be on the boat a lot more that we could have otherwise. We'll have a car at the marina, Savannah, Cumberland Island, Hilton Head, Jacksonville, all just a hop and a skip down the ICW. Not so bad.

We're working with Jeff Merrill now. Going to see some listings when we go down for trawlerfest. Got a line on insurance, a training capt'n lined up, an idea where we'll keep it with slips available, finances are pretty much sorted out. I've had to jump through a lot of hoops to get to this point, but we'll find something. It's just a matter of time now.

Good to see you got your Bruce Willis on "be prepared"

Yeah, life happens. I had a boat docked here once and then Pops came to live with us and yeah then I sold the boat because it was only furnishing a floating home for spiders. Been over a decade since then and here I am now. But look where I started - :)

Can you see the smile on my face?

Hold the phone, Judy! Yes, your posts are always appreciated!

I just think many here haven't known you actually specialize in trawlers, and that you're willing and available.

You actually helped me, back in 2021, when we were shopping for the boat we have now, even though you weren't involved at all in our search. We were trying to buy a (non-trawler) boat in the FLL area, and you recommended Malcom Elliott/Florida Nautical Surveyors. (Seller took the boat off the market, disappeared...) Anyway, I do remember being grateful for your insight, so thanks again for that!

Regards, -Chris

After a disastrous first purchase attempt, I find myself quite frustrated. After almost a year of searching, I've still not been able to find our new boat. Maybe you guys can help? We are looking for a trawler, up to 50ft, 5ft or less draft, 2 staterooms, 2 heads, used but newer build, air con and generator, fly bridge and stabilized. Prefer single engine, SD or displacement are ok but not looking for a fast boat and certainly not a project boat. Prefer as turn key as possible. No pod drives or volvo. Ideally it would have FRB tanks and little to no wood on the outside. 1000nm+ range would be prefered. Cruising grounds will be East Coast ICW and Bahamas. Don't mind updating electronics if need be as long as the rest is solid. Budget up to $1M

We're open to hear just about anything other than Helmsman. Thanks!
I have a 48 Defever in Rio Dulce that is in great condition. Totally equiped, if interested.

Check out the Heritage East 36. There are several on the market built since 2000. We have a 2002. There is a single engine, two staterooms and two heads. We cruise up and down the east coast via the ICW. Her prior owners took her to the Bahamas from the west coast of Florida something like 17 times. It's a very comfortable boat, definitely not fast. We generally cruise at about 8 knots. We did not need to replace our electronics when we bought the boat in 2019.
We have friends down the creek from us that liked ours so much they bought one, too. Theirs is now for sale. It's a 2004, in great shape as far as I know, and homeported right off the ICW in NC if you're interested.

I agree with the previous comment about using Zimmerman; they are not cheap, but they will really look out for your interests.
As to boats, Legacy, Sabreline and East Bay all have models in the 48ft range which would definitely meet your draft maximum needs. Given your budget, the Krogen 54 Express is a beautiful boat, and worth taking a look at, may be too big, though.
Good luck, hope you find the right boat for you.
