Hi Has anyone utilized boat setter for short term rental of their Grand Banks.? I thought it was interesting. I would like my GB Grand Banks to run a few more miles when I can't use it.Plus pay some dock bills. I wanted a licensed Captain and Insurance coverage. It seems like a great business model. My boat is very well maintained. It seems many of the complaints are people can't cancel at the last minute. They give you the boat owner a option of cancellation policies. The other complaint is boats people rent are in poor condition.

Wondering if other owners have had experience with Boat Setter. Thanks in advance.

Hello -
Until recently, we had a GB 36, and cruised the east coast, extensively - and we miss her. If you're going to "charter", we might be a candidate, even if the boat does not move. We liked marina life as well as cruising. If interested, please let me know of your boat's location.

Hi Mike, My goal is to keep this beautiful boat moving. I am in Norwalk CT. I find this Boat Setter sight difficult.
Idealy I would love former Grand Banks owners the opportunity to hop on board and rent for a few days of cruising. Summer Wind is a beautiful Grand Banks 42 Classic. We have a few trips planned this summer but my wife has other plans for me as well. Reach out 203-524-2776. I would like to meet prior Grand Bank owners who just want to cruise for a few days.

Mike, I have owned boats and a trawler to 41 ft in the past and would LOVE an opportunity like the one you are thinking about, but I live in FL.

My experience with Boatsetter is not great. The first time I used them, many years ago, we chartered a 31 Pursuit out of Miami. When we showed up the boat was filthy, would not start, and was in such a condition that we walked away,

I have tried them a couple times in the recent past. Once was for a houseboat in Fort Myers. When I responded to the ad, was told the boat was not really for rent, it was up for sale.

The second time was for a 40 something foot Catamaran. When I showed up, the guy and his family were living on it full time, and it was filthy. Walked away from that one, too!

Hi Mike, I have been mulling over the same thing!! I have a 36 ft GB Classic, have my 6 pack captains lic and seeing retirement looming in the near future. I am in Marblehead, MA and prior to buying my boat, I could not find one to 'charter' to evaluate/gain some helm time prior to buying up in our area of cruising. So, Boatsetter enters the picture. To test the waters so to speak, I am going to put my 21' into charter with them as a 'test' drive for this summer. The issue I am working through is the insurance coverage as I do not have a commercial insurance policy and my current insurance does not offer Peer to Peer insurance coverage so I will be moving my 21' to GEICO to be fully enrolled in their insurance program (Boatsetter uses while the boat is in charter). I think using charters varies with boats and regions but in the Northeast, there is not a big inventory for larger boats and the listings I have looked at require a USGC captain or, are only available with the owner as captain. Be happy to chat more directly if you want. ~ Paula

I have looked into and actually chartered my boats in the past. Most success I had was through a maintenance/charter company in Cape Coral FL.

The 2 biggest issues I have encountered are insurance and keeping the boat maintained.

Hi Paula, Geico does not insure boats over 40 Ft. Another challenge with Boatsetter. My thinking is can we set up boat leasing just for former Grand Bank owners on The Trawler Forum. who would like to cruise for a few days on a Grand Banks or similar trawler. I am in Norwalk CT. Surely some former Grand Bank owners from Florida would like to escape to Stonington, Block Island or Montauk for a few days. Feel free to reach out any time I welcome the feedback. 203-524-2776
