Wow hadn't heard that and also explains why King Crab prices are so high. I was in Alaska iover the summer and there seemed to be no shortage of snow or king crab, but that will likely change if it hasn't already. Sad shame!

a little late to the game but.......we were at the commissary last week, At the seafood counter I asked the fish monger about the Alaskan closure. He stated that our Snow Crab now comes from Greenland. Little change in price. Still outrageous.

The crabs have not disappeared. They have simply moved out of the sampling area. We know where the crabs are. Unfortunately the government model does not allow for changing the location of the sampling area. Until the crabs move back into the sampling area there will be no more crabbing.
