Hello Everyone,
It has been 6 months since we own the boat and live aboard full time. The 1985 Gulfstar 49 MY has a 675 gallon fiberglass fuel tank with three pickups on the top. One fir each engine and one for the gene. I was thinking the path of least resistance to installing a fuel polishing set-up, is tap into both engine pickups, adding 3 way valves, and using one as a pickup and one as a return while polishing. Does anyone see any drawbacks to doing this?
Thanks,
Paul

If the pickups are close to one another, you won't get much circulation of fuel. No possibility of using a return instead of the pickup?

Are the return lines in the same location? On my boat, I can draw from a drain in the front and return with the other returns in the rear. Makes it much more effective.

Yes, the returns are also located on the top. I can tap into the farthest return to try and space them out. Thanks for the ideas guys.

The return lines may well dump into the top of the tank so that would suffice, IMO.

Also see if you can extend your pickup tube all the way to the lowest part of the bottom of the tank, perhaps leaving a 1/4" to 1/2" clearance at most. Suck up all that crud.

Mako, I like that idea. My fear is with age and the fact it’s a fiberglass tank, I m scared to break or damage a pickup fitting when I remove it. Hopefully someone has some
Insight on how well they glass the threaded base in the glass tanks.
Thanks
