40+ Boats off of South La Jolla, CA

From my house I can see over 40 boats, all in one area, off of south La Jolla or Pacific Beach, CA. Does anyone know what's going on out there? They seem to be fishing but for what?

I think we're having an early Yellowtail run this year.

Skimmers, in case the spilled gulf oil goes through the canal and up the Pacific coast.
