How many of you also have a motorhome

By chance were you in Silverton, Co. about late July or early August? I talked to a guy from FL with the same rig( as I recall) in town while waiting on laundry. We were camped at Mineral Creek at the same time. Looks like that guy could be you. Rafe

    need help on the Okeechobee

Ted, yesterday I was eastbound and at Mayaca the river was 3' higher than the lake. That's right a 3' lift on a down bound lockage. Seems to defy the laws of nature. Rafe

Little Harbour cut to Egg Island?

Dude, I was there 2 years ago and both Little Harbor and the Spanish Wells inlets were a non-event, very straight forward. We enjoyed Spanish Wells( only 2 nights there) , hope to explore more of Eleuthera some day. When in June are you leaving? If you are still on the west coast and passing...

    Weird Electrical Problem

With only those details I would guess a transfer switch or relay not operating correctly or in the wrong position. Good luck, keep us informed. Rafe

    Generator, replace or not

I spoke with this guy at the Miami boat show last week. Interesting stuff, seems to be a good quality product. If you use the generator budget for lithium batteries and electrical upgrades, it might work. No affiliation here, it seems this might be what the OP was looking for. www.tmdmarine.com...

    e Bike On Board?

Was in Key West and just returned from the grocery store. Rode out on the dock to unload. While stepping onto the boat a 30 kt gust blew the bike over and it fell between the boat and dock into 9' of water. I had it out in in 5 minutes or so, and while rinsing the bike with fresh water the...

    e Bike On Board?

I had a Prodeco Phantom X2, a well made bike built in Ft Lauderdale. About $1500 as I recall six years ago. It's a bit heavy but worked great. It cannot swim however and lithium batteries mixed with salt water create fire. I miss that bike. Rafe

I have, not too difficult. Lake Charles is a great stop. Rafe

    Considering Cats

I think I have hauled in four different locations; FL(2), VA, & TX. Hasn't been a problem so far. I'm sure there are places where a wider lift may not be common, but can apply to all sorts of issues. I wouldn't worry much about it. I think the pros far outweigh the cons for cats, but that's me...

    Considering Cats

My boat had no problem at all around the loop at a 17' beam. As B&B said most transient dockage tends to be side tie and I prefer that. The only time the 1.5 surcharge came up was at Liberty Landing( I argued and won, didn't have to pay it). Trent Severn was no problem at all, don't miss it. The...

    3 Cyl Yanmar Valve lash

My method is : EO-IC, when exhaust valve starts to open set the intake. When intake valve is almost closed, set the exhaust. You can do the cylinders in any order. I think it will work on any 4 stroke engine. Rafe

How far off the Jersey coast?

At 3 miles you may stand a better chance of seeing whales, at least that was my experience. Rafe

    Mantus "digger" anchor

I have been using one for 5 years, once around the "loop" and two trips to the Bahamas. It has been rock solid. I am a very satisfied customer. Rafe

    Intermittent Start (Ford Lehman 120)

So if the problem repeats, the next thing I would check is the start signal from the key at the solenoid. Rafe

Gregg Burdick at Stuart Yacht is the guy I use. I don't think you can find a more honest or experienced boat repair yard. Rafe

    Small solar solution?

Look at E Marine Systems website. They are in Ft Lauderdale, you could pick it up on your way from the airport and save shipping (& damage). I have 480 watts and never turn it off, even when on shore power. The charge controller will take care of things. Rafe

    Okeechobee locks solo?

I have done the eastbound trip twice single handed, no problem. You can try just the mid-ship cleat but I think last time the lockmaster insisted I take 2 lines. They are long enough to go around either bow or stern cleats while you stand mid-ship and tend both lines. It's not difficult and the...

St Lucie inlet or Ft Pierce?

As has been said, wind & tide are THE factors for either inlet. I used St. Lucie last month and it was fairly easy. Channel is marked well. The ICW intersection is more dangerous on a weekend with all the traffic. Time your arrival accordingly. We drove to the Treasure Coast Airport in Ft...

    Storage in Stuart/Ft Pierce Fl

River Forest Yachting Center in Stuart has both inside & outside storage. Just west of the St. Lucie lock, seems to be a great place and very clean. Dropped mine off there last week. Rafe

First trip to the Bahamas--need a plan.

Hey Dude, Where in Stuart are you? Cat Daddy is at Stuart Yacht Harbor getting ready, we are heading to the Exumas at the end of the month. An Explorer chart book for the northern Bahamas might help. My Garmin BlueChart Mobile seemed to be the Explorer data in electronic form and was spot on...

Mystery Part on a Yanmar 6lypa-STP

I believe those are starter relays. My 4JH3's have the same, mounted near the starter. I think they solve a voltage drop problem in the long wire run to the flybridge. Rafe

Can you do a Loop as a single with a Ranger ?

I just completed the loop last year, 90 percent single handed. Over 130 locks and 8000 miles. I think boat choice is very important. Your Ranger should be a good choice, with a pilothouse door. The Erie Canal locks are the most difficult, with slimy weighted ropes. Depending on the wind you may...

    Galveston Area Live Aboard Marinas

We kept our boat at Waterford Harbor on Clear Lake. It is a great marina that didn't require a yearly lease, so if you something better you are free to go. They also had an on site pump-out, most other marinas did not, requiring a pump out service. There are quite a few choices on Clear Lake...

    Losing Oil Pressure

The mechanical gauge is the best idea to confirm actual pressure. Most small blocks use the 1/8" pipe port that is near the base of the distributor, facing up. There are other places that can be used also, a port just above oil filter 1/4" pipe I think. If it makes you feel any safer, most...

    your favorite, on-water restaurant

Another vote for Henry's. We tried both locations and the Pickerel was fantastic both times. The location is hard to beat also. Rafe
