    Considering a liveaboard

Agree that a Hatteras in the range mentioned above would be a very good choice. The Hatteras 53 MY would be an excellent choice. Also a Jefferson 52 would fill your needs very well although I don't know if any are on the west coast now. Check both of them out on Yacht World and you will see what...

Bacchus, do you have a link for the tool that you are talking about? This would make life so much easier if it fits my 6V92 DD. Thanks.

    How about those Jeffersons?

As far as bottom paint b I get 4 years but I have a diver clean it every month. I would expect you could get 3 years but hope someone has input that is familiar with fresh water and winter pulls. I am in salt to brackish. My bridge clearance is 24.5. Maybe 24 but never tried it. With the arch...

    How about those Jeffersons?

Yes like most Taiwanese trawlers it does have some blisters. l have the yard take care of them at bottom paint time. Superficial but still stay after them. Engine rooms are large and full stand up. Inboard side has great access. The outboard side can be a little tight but very doable. Front and...

    How about those Jeffersons?

Unfortunately I don't have any build details in documents. I wish I had. I can tell you that she is heavily built. Ours weighs in at about 58500 lbs. on the lift with about 1/3 fuel. If you can tell me where your looking at one? If it is near me I can go through ours with you and show you some...

    Rudder Bearing

I just went through the same thing on mine. I have very similar mechanism as you have. They had to drop the rudder and found a small spot of corrosion on the shaft that was causing it to bind below the bearings. Cleaned and welded a tiny spot and I was back to new.

    Slip-sliding away...

John, be careful on those crutches! When I was 20 years younger I could fly around on the crutches when I had a knee injury. Now at 65, when I injured my ankle last week in prep for the hurricane, I thought I was going to kill myself on those. Be careful on them. Hope its nothing serious and you...

    3/8 ID hose for dripless

On my last check of the boat before exiting her for the hurricane I opened the engine room door and could hear a very good water spray/run. Long story short one of my dripless cooling line that up the cold water exhaust feed was spilt wide open. It was split way below the waterline. I looked on...

Storm Michael, what not to do!

OK here is the latest update for my situation. I spent several hours at the Orthopedic Surgeon yesterday. No surgery required. Also got rid of those crutches. At 65 I thought the crutches were going to kill me. :) I now have a walking boot and pain pills. Allows me to be able to walk slowly and...

Storm Michael, what not to do!

yeah, the one marina that does haul outs for storms, charges 10,000 for the first storm haul out and 5K for each after that. Then they put you about 4 feet above sea level. When opal and Ivan hit the that marina looked like a grave yard of boats. Boats scattered up on the highway.

Storm Michael, what not to do!

So I was preparing for storm Michael and I fell on my dock and broke my ankle and tore some tendons. I'm pretty much useless now, on crutches and so on. My neighbor is helping tie her down and we should be OK as long as the storm stays to the east. We have very good protection from the north...

    Charger and ACR questions

I did not. I just let the ACR charge both ways. I did not connect the second charge line of my inverter charger. Usually I run my engines at least once a month which keeps the engine batteries happy without any charging.

    Charger and ACR questions

I would leave the ACR in place. That way when you are running your engines you will be charging your house batteries too. I was faced with the same situation and the ACR was the only way I could come up with charging from the engine alternator when running without running a direct heavy wire to...
