    Help! That last Christmas gift.

NOT marine related but here goes... This morning my wife had to drive herself to work (I always drive - it's 80 miles one way thru multiple ugly traffic areas). It was raining and dark and she got lost. I got her location, used mapquest from home and guided her to work. Problem solved. So...

    Dream Boats (not)

This is sort of my poking fun back at our "Members Boats" Thread. We were cruising up in the Canadian Gulf Islands and came across this boat. I just HAD to get a shot of her. Maybe you'll get a good chuckle. I just wish I'd gotten a shot of the sailboat at the public dock in Gig Harbor from...

Stern tie - I need your opinion

I use a stern tie when I'm in deep water anchoring locations here in the northwest. I have a 600' spool of 1/2" yellow poly that I take from my stern to shore, wrap around a tree or large rock and then bring it back to the stern. On departure I let loose one end and retrieve all the line while...

Any Nova (Fu Hwa - FHB) owners here?

I think mine is a Nova Heratiage.* It's a 1985 that was sold as a 40'.* When measured it's something like 38'9" and has a 13'6" beam.* I have some questions for anyone who's done any work on them.* Specifically the windows and interior paneling. I've now had some experience with the...

    Refrigeration problem - any ideas?

Hopefully this is a DUMB question. When my Tundra refrigerator is on shore power the freezer plate gets cold enough to freeze the contents in the freezer but when on 12v, it only gets cool ~ 45 degrees.* My meter shows 12.4 volts in the house bank.* Any ideas?

What do you enjoy while out?

I thought it might be interesting to find out what others like to do with their free time while on their boat and ashore while out cruising. Of course we like doing the relaxed reading, and going for hikes on the many islands, gourging on crab and shrimp and the like.* But one of my passions...

A rant - better here than on 16.

I know it's not all Bayliner owners. I use to work there and know many good operators but What is it about Bayliner owners? Last weekend 5/31 we were headed in after a great (sunny) trip into the San Juans. We were headed south on the Snohomish slough / channel, north of LaConner.* My wife was...

    Steam bending questions

Anyone have any advice. I'm replacing the rub rail on my 40' Nova and I'm building a steam box to bend the wood. I'm using 17' long pieces of Purpleheart that are 2" wide by 3/4" thick. Rule of thumb is 60 min per Inch so I'll cook the wood for ~ 45 to 50 min. For my steamer I'm planning on a...
