    Trawler Charter Market

I have a 36 sundeck trawler located on the southern eastern shore of the Chesapeake & have also thought about chartering. If the insurance issue is too much trouble and expense, I would consider an exchange of use with another owner. I did this years ago with a shore condo we owned in Jersey...

    r/v antifreeze=mold?

Hi All, I store my boat in the water under a shed in southern Virginia. I winterized the boat with non-toxic antifreeze. This winter I found mold in the toilet bowl and on the bilge water. I pour antifreeze in the bilge to run thru the bilge pumps. I did the same last winter & had no growth...

    Best Diesel Fuel Water remover

Hi All, I have a trawler with Iron fuel tanks. Tanks were cleaned 2 years ago manually & are in good shape. I have the boat in winter storage in Virgina & I always keep the tanks full to keep condensation out. I was thinking of adding a additive to remove any trace of water. What would be a...

Anyone have experience using Barnacle Buster

The Sea Flush system has you filling the system & letting it sit for 4 hours, then starting engine to flush out. Do you think this would work OK without the pump to recirculate the solution ? Also, do you have to remove zincs first. I read some products will be hard on the zincs.

Anyone have experience using Barnacle Buster

I have a Sea Flush kit which I used to winterize my boat. I see it can be used to pump a solution of a product called 'barnacle buster' thru the raw water side & let it soak for 4 hours, there by cleaning any deposits. Has anyone used this method. My exchanger taken off & rebuilt 2 years ago at...

How long will barrier coat last?

Hi All, I have a 2001 trawler which was barrier coated when manufactured. The boat is kept in the water year round & up till last fall the diver said the bottom was in good condition. Water heater recommendations

I replaced mine last winter with a 6 gal. Raritan with engine loop. Had a small problem with the 180 engine temp tripping the reset breaker after a run. Raritan was very good with replacement of the breaker AND follow-up after installation. I had a valve installed at the engine to cut off the...

    Love a Sundeck But...

I have a 2001 Heritage East 36 with the molded steps. It was a big reason why we chose to buy the boat. Looked at many great boats, but our bodies just don't like to climb ladders any more.

    Adding Bleach to Water Tanks

Hello all, I have been told to add a small amount of bleach when filling the water tanks to help keep the bugs at bay. Anyone know the right amount per gallon which is safe. We don't drink our tank water, but want to keep it at a safe level just in case someone does. Thanks Gary

    New Water Heater Problem-Heads up

Problem solved The manufacturer sent me a new thermostat & it works fine. I ran the boat for an hour or so at operating temp, and reset breaker held fine. The did a good job in helping & calling back to make sure all was well. They said they had a few others with the same problem. Anyone wants...

    New Water Heater Problem-Heads up

UPDATE: The manufacturer has sent me a new thermostat/with reset breaker, which I have installed. Works fine on the shore power side, but will not be able to test with engine for a while as I am having exhaust work done on my engine. I will report the result when I get to run the boat again.

    New Water Heater Problem-Heads up

After making this post, I got a call-back from the mfr. rep. who told me there were some others with the same condition & they were sending me a reset breaker that should be good to 190 degrees. I will have that in about a week & will post results. For now, I am installing a gate valve at the...

    New Water Heater Problem-Heads up

Hello All, I recently replaced my 14 year old water heater with the exact same size (6 gal.) unit with engine heat exchanger. I am writing to give anyone about to do this a heads-up. The new unit worked fine at the dock for the winter, but when we left to head north, everyday the reset breaker...

Which helm should have radar display?

Hi all, I am just finishing my first year with my small trawler. I have a garmin 740 gps, which I have plugs for at the lower and upper helms. I have been moving it to where I am running the boat from. I now see this is not the best thing for the unit (to keep unplugging it) so I purchased a...

Is 'free' hot water worth it?

Hi All, Heading south on the icw, had an issue with my hot water heater. My fresh water pump started to run a few seconds at a time. Thinking I had a pipe or fitting leaking, I lifted the engine hatch. We had been docked for over a day. I found hot water & antifreeze gushing out of the plastic...

    Bow Thruster problem

Hi All, Well, the problem seems to be solved. I had a new 105 amp alternator installed to replace my old 80 amp unit, which appeared to be original to the engine. The thruster still drops the dash volt meter a couple of volts when engaged, but thruster runs strongly. The mechanic who installed...

    Bow Thruster problem

Thanks. I will check the wire size. The volt guage pops right back to 12.5v as soon as I release the thruster switch. I have the owners manual & will check their specs. for installation. My new 31 dc batteries are rated at 850 cca, stamped on top of the battery. Thank you all again!

    Bow Thruster problem

Hello All, I am running the thruster with the engine at idle while docking. The batteries were installed in april & boatyard said they were fine. They also said the wiring checked out ok to the thruster. I guess the run is 12ft or so. There is room to put a battery next to the unit. I do...

    Bow Thruster problem

Hi All, I just had a new electric thruster installed. My old on needed the motor rebuilt & it was just more cost effective to replace entire unit. The old unit would not rev very high and would quickly drop the volt meter below 10 volts. The new unit really is powerful and moves the bow...
