    Camano leaking fuel return manifold

Interestingly enough, my 97 has a alum manifold, and it looks original.

    Internet & WiFi Connectivity Webinar

I use Peplink products for work all the time. They are a good company. Basically I think what they have for marine use is a Cellular Router … aka WIFI hotspot, but with a lot more routing capabilities, which I doubt the average boater needs, like port forwarding, firewalls, etc.

    Painting Camano Window Frames

Ha ! I plan to do the same thing in the spring. Just bought the boat this year. My 97 needs it too. I just bought some Rustoleam Marine black primer and paint that got good reviews, but have not done it yet. I doubt it will be fun, taping, sanding the original, applying primer, then paint...

    Help with Garmin NMEA issue

The N2K bus is a CAN bus at the physical layer, so if the instrument is holding either the D+ or D- signals, no traffic can pass. Do you know if other N2K data is still working on the bus ? Also if you have a N2K monitor like the Actisense NGT-1, you can monitor what is happening.

    Camano Troll Galley Cabinet Ideas

The only reason I would add something there is for quick access storage. Do you have a oven/cooktop ? or just a cooktop ? I have only a cooktop so I have quite a bit of storage where the oven would have been. Don't know if i'd ever use an oven. I pulled it out of my previous sailboat to make...

Daunting Engine Inspection... proceed or bail?

I certainly agree with some of the previous posts… its leverage to reduce the cost and get the maintenance work done, and then feel good about it being new. The boat I just bought this year didn’t have a generator, so I got the cost down $5K just for that. If they don’t appreciate what you...

    Trawler Covers

Today I just put on my custom cover from ShipShape Canvas. Came out great. I measured the pattern and designed the very simple to build frame ! Peace of mind for the winter !!! They are excellent to deal with !!

    Thoughts on Bow Thrusters

Something to consider is that (at least for me) you are always running your engines when operations the windlass or bow thruster. That helps with current supply. I have no batteries in the bow. I do have maybe 2 AWG (I’d have to check if its 0) running from my house bank. I have had no...

    Camano Troll Galley Cabinet Ideas

I put a clock there. Seems to be a good spot, and use it as a quick reference often. I only have a year on the boat, so its not set in stone yet lol.

    Binoculars with a Compass?

Not to digress, but… in the old days growing up as a kid sailing in Narragansett bay and the islands, we used a RDF. Radio Direction Finder.. We rotate a big wheel on top of a mulitband radio that was tuned into transmitters. We found the peak signal and marked the heading. All dead...

Sail to Trawler is the Goal!

Welcome ! I grew up sailing in RI, since I was like 10. Always had a boat. Now in the Chesapeake. Just sold my Tartan 3000 last fall. Moved to trawlers. Camano 31. No regrets. Go for it ! (Just ask my gf how much more she likes trawlers ! Lol )

    To soda blast or not?

As a new to me owner of a 97 Camano 31, there were more layers of old paint that I could count. I figured I’d save weight from removing it all ! Lol jk. I had it soda blasted out of pure laziness. Just to much work in my old age *50s. I find myself writing more checks and enjoying other...

Why would I not do this?

Time to play “flip this engine” instead of “flip this house”. Sounds like a decent opportunity to make a bit of $. I wouldn’t even attemp to put it to use. Find someone to buy it, even if you sit on it for a year. Better than the stock market if you just sell it for $5K in a year.

    Trawler Covers

I use shipshape canvas out of Duluth. They made a custom cover for my Tartan 30 before I sold it. After 6 years it looked brand new. They just designed one for my Camano 31, and its supposed to arrive this week. $3K. IMO, totally worth it. Pays for itself in 4 years here in MD. Looks...

    Maneuvering a Single in Reverse

Like the comments above, a starboard prop walk combined with forward power with the helm to port can get the boat to rotate using short bursts. Another approach that has been successful with my boat to to get some reverse momentum and use the bow thruster like a rudder. Doesn’t seem intuitive...

    Camano specific insurance

I use Gallagher Charter Lakes. Great rates and coverage. They are broker. I don't think it would be a problem. No problem when I bough mine this April.

    Analog to NMEA conversion

I bought one of those Far East N2K devices thru Amazon for a bit more return protection. I needed it. Didn’t do anything. Returned it. In the process of making my own for a bit of fun and flexibility. RPI4, PICAN-M, YachtDevice WIFI, ADC board. Winter project to give me WIFI gauges...

    USB Charging - The latest

USB specs evolve relatively fast, from USB-A,B,C connectors that go along with bus speed. On a boat, I’d hate to have to change something out again in a few years. A recent car rental had only USB-C adapters ! I didn’t have a cable for my iPhone, but it did have wireless charging built in...

    Recommended Makes 30-40 Feet

I think you need to narrow down your "requirements" section, and then have a "nice to have" section. As stated alot of boats will fit into what you describe. I'd leave the price out of it for now, until you pick the boat. Price usually goes with the age/hours/condition, which you consider...

    Watts versus Amps

Another thing to consider, especially with an inverters AC power output is the type of power the load requires. Inverters are rated at resistive power output only. If you have a device that has capacitive or inductive elements, there is reactive power. So you inverter output is de-rated. A...

    Boat Monitor

I am in the process of designing one myself as a winter project. The first version will be for testing using a Rpi4. Will interface to the N2K bus as well. Will support WIFI, CELL, SAT COM (Iridium SBD or SWARM). All messages will come in via email, as well as commands to the device. Like I...

    Inverter tech

Unfortunately, anything in the unit could be damaged with FOD. As we used to say... its now a brick. All inverters should be output protected with a fuse.
