What to Do When It Snows in the PNW!

I live near Portland. Somewhere in this area, a few covered moorages collapsed and sank a few boats. Having been here 50 years, That has happened a few times over the years. I'm happy my future boat seems to be safe in a boathouse elsewhere!

    Hopeless Projects!

I stumbled across a thread on Youtube about a young couple that bought an old WWII small ship. The thing is rotten just about everywhere. These poor folks likely stand no chance of making this thing seaworthy and cosmetically tolerable. Makes most of our projects suddenly "doable"

I feel sorry for this couple....

What a mess! They are screwed! The S.S. Waterweavel would take a dozen ship wrights and a million bucks to make a decent $ 50,000.00 boat! You gotta admire youthful exuberance!

    Fly bridge Dingy Storage

Great responses and thoughts all. I agree in the PNW cover is mandatory in one way or another. Extending the hardtop would be ideal. Obviously custom since these were never like a Bayliner 3888 in popularity that generated molds etc. I love the vision of the thing flailing around in a 30 knot...

    Fly bridge Dingy Storage

Hi All, I'm sure this subject has been beaten to death, but I am mulling over having a Stainless Steel tube hardtop extension made for an 84 Cheerman that in essence is a storage platform for a 11' Boston Whaler. The existing hardtop is about 4' short. Seems like a tube platform could easily...

    Russian Trawler Update 2

Wow! That's wheelborrow sized nuts! And we think we have problems!

    Found a boat to buy

Wow! That's commitment! A 4000 mile round trip by car is like the cannon ball run! Personally I fear flying a lot less than the road trip and all the potential points of possible covid contact. The airlines have gotten the cabin sanitation and ventilation down to a science. I am flying on the...

How important do you find a 'speed through water' reading.

Composting toilets?? I gotta say, that idea give me a bit of the old "throw up in my mouth" thing.

    Any trashy Trawlers out there?

That Cathlamet Sternwheeler could be a great $ 5,000.00 boat if someone put a half a million in it!

PT, Cheoy Lee, Marin Yacht Sales ??

That is sharp. You've knocked it out of thr park. Especially the repower. The one I've been toying with is the single stateroom. A bit of a drawback. My other issue is the teak. Love/hate. I'm not going to rip it off, so hopefully if we get to survey its o.k. The other is the exterior teak needs...

PT, Cheoy Lee, Marin Yacht Sales ??

Sounds like you are happy with yours. Is your layout galley up? I assume at least 2 staterooms. Some pics would be great!

PT, Cheoy Lee, Marin Yacht Sales ??

1984 Cheer Men I am looking at a 84 Cheer Men PT 41 very similar to your pic. This style/builder were never on my radar, but I am becoming a bit more enamoured with the user friendly ergonomics. The upside and downside is the exterior Teak. It needs some love. And of course ongoing love. I'm...

    Transporting a Trawler

Looks like shipping boats is crazy expensive! Looks like waiting for the right boat locally is the only really viable solution. Spending 50k to haul a boat is NUTS!

    So When Is Enough, Enough

    Cheer Men PT41 potential acquisition

Amazing results! You are a dedicated man! You really killed it with your upgrades! Assuming this fools errand works out, I intend to correct some deferred maintenance, personalize a few things, remove antique junk electronics, likely change canvas to Navy. I think based on my mission, I may...

    Cheer Men PT41 potential acquisition

Yikes! 50k and bunches of work! They are a classic boat for sure. Yours looks close to the 84. Is yours single queen island? Love to see more pics of yours! What were your major expenses?

    Cheer Men PT41 potential acquisition

Hi All, I appreciate all the helpful information. As the quest goes on, the surveyor I intend to employ has done this boat twice in the last year or two for the same seller. He is bound to not disclose results of those surveys unless the owner of the survey gives him permission, so I do not...

    Cheer Men PT41 potential acquisition

Sweet! I will fly you over and put you up while you do it! seriously, I get that the process is 90% labor. I'm a bit past the love for that much hard labor!

    Cheer Men PT41 potential acquisition

The finished product done correctly would cure the problem, but I can't imagine all that work! One gent somewgerevalong the line said he had over 40k in Teak removal and fiberglassing. I think the decision point will be the surveyors testing of the decks for eater intrusion. What could go...

    Cheer Men PT41 potential acquisition

A bit of progress. My buddy is moving the boat to a larger slip so the decks won't get wind blown rain. As soon as everything is dried out, I will have the surveyor give it a once over. It nreds a good wash job so I can really see the decks. They look good. They are grey. The other teak ranges...

    Design Rendering

Some folks have a done a great job with Sketchup. Seems to have a fairly gentle learning curve. I'm so used to autocad that teaching a old dog new tricks has been a problem!

    Cheer Men PT41 potential acquisition

True story on the road ahead. The off ramp is closer to the on ramp! The bitch with these things is the age. Finding a nice one is indeed a quest. I guess that's half the fun. The Cheer Man is a damn decent boat for the mission. I think it boils down to the survey. In the mean time, the quest...

Yeah, I don't think I have any of those. I think the Seattle broker either had a bad experience with perhaps the turbo version, or just doesn't want me to by this boat since it isn't thiers!

The entire engine room is beyond immaculate. Lets hope mechanically is is as good as it looks. I do however recognize its a 35 year old boat.

Can you tell from these pics if these are manicooler? These look like manipulated to the untrained eye.
