Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

So an update on this process for anyone interested: Surveyor got on the bought a month and a half ago, but the owner didn't seem to happy to have him poking around. Prior to that, the owner "rejected" the diesel mechanic due to some personal conflict stemming from the mechanic's daughter and...

Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

The update is the survey was cancelled by the seller due to a family medical emergency, so we are rescheduling for another day. I'm anticipating a pretty long, drawn out process to get this deal to happen, assuming the boat is acceptable.

Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

Update Survey is starting on Wednesday. Keeping my Fingers crossed that the boat is as advertised in the listing. I’m looking for a good maritime attorney to help with the importing. Does anyone know of one they can recommend? I have enlisted Howard Reeder Inc to do the leg work once the...

    International Boat Purchase

I found that web page also. The boat was previously registered in the US, so I would think that the duty was paid then, but I won’t be surprised at all if the govt taxes it twice.

Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

We had a Hatt 70 under contract last fall, but it failed to get off the dock for sea trial 3 times. I had planned on changing the ladder out to stairs, but it was going to be a very involved project. I had a hard time just getting up through the ladder/hatch. I’m 6’-4” so I kind of have...

Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

Yes, that could have saved me this hassle. The drawback to the Hatteras is that it doesn’t have stairs to the flybridge. We want to avoid the ladder on this purchase, and the Cheoy Lee has 4 staterooms. Nothing is ever easy.

Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

That is the feedback I’m getting so far from the customs broker. I am talking to a maritime attorney to get a second opinion and to find out what else we can do.

    International Boat Purchase

Yes, I think a 25% tax is inordinate, so I’m talking to a maritime attorney to see what we can do. I don’t like the hassle of a foreign purchase, but I can deal with it for the boat we want. I was a federal govt contractor for over 20 years, so I’m somewhat conditioned to red tape and...

Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

So an update on my purchase of this Cheoy Lee 61: contract in place, deposit being put into escrow, customs broker involved(boat is located in Bermuda), surveyor checking availability. First hiccup - apparently there is a 25% tax on importing a Chinese built boat to the US right now. That...

    International Boat Purchase

So as I move this purchase along little by little, the customs broker hit me with a shocker. There is a 25% tax on chinese boats, and of course, the boat that we have had our eyes set on is a Cheoy Lee 61 LRC. Now, considering how US/China relations are, I expected some sort of ridiculous...

I’d be happy to exchange notes and let you know what we find as we go through the process.

Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

And I will definitely lean on you for figuring out where everything is and how things are routed throughout the boat. I hope you can get those 6-71s cleaned up and singing. I’m not experienced with the 3208s but I’ve got another thread going about those and there seems to be some positivity...

Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

Thanks - I’m pretty excited. We had a Hatteras under contract last fall but it failed to get off the dock 3 times for a sea trial. We’ve been searching for this upgrade for about 2 years, so I really hope this thing checks out well. I think if all is good with the boat, we will have gotten...

Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

Yes, it is Playpen. We offered on it a while ago and the seller was stuck on a number I couldn’t justify. I spoke to someone on Bermuda who had been on the boat and also got some additional videos and photos of the current condition. The broker seemed flustered with the seller at the time...

    Cat 3208T Fuel consumption

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I’m leaning heavily towards this boat and the mains have about 4400 hours on them. I like the idea of having a little extra with the turbos if I need it, but I plan to run the boat at around 8-9 kts

Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

Chasles - my home port is Mystic CT. I currently have a Luhrs 40 fishing boat we boat when we only had one kid. Before that, we had a 35’ Island Packet sailboat. I’m making an offer on this 1984 61’. I’m hoping we can make it happen.

Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

chasles - we are in a similar "boat" so to speak. Three boys, and we currently have a 40' that is just too cramped. Holding tank is far too small for a family of five also. The CL 61 seems to have the best balance of space in our price range and cruising plans, but I do keep thinking about...

    Cat 3208T Fuel consumption

So this boat that I'm looking at has the 3208s with a single turbo. Being a full displacement trawler, isn't the turbo kind of useless? Most of these that I've seen either have the 3208 naturals or 6-71 naturals.

    International Boat Purchase

Good afternoon all, I'm getting close to purchasing a boat that is located in Bermuda and bringing it back to the States (CT to be exact). What hurdles or problems should I anticipate in executing this transaction and what is the process that I should expect? I have never purchased a boat...

    Cat 3208T Fuel consumption

I'm looking at a 61' trawler that is powered with twin 3208T Cats and I'm trying to get an idea of fuel burn on these motors. The boat is a full displacement hull and displacement is around 90,000lbs. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

I didn't get a chance to get on the boat. I was down in Sarasota and when I contacted the broker he said it had just gone under contract. I have a line on one that I am trying to get on. It's a 1984 61'. Cat 3208s How did Discipleship handle on sea trial? Anything unique?

Wanted: Cheoy Lee 61 or Hatteras LRC 58/65

I'm looking for either a Cheoy Lee 61 Long Range Cruiser (1970s-1980s) or a Hatteras LRC (either the 58 or the 65). If anyone knows of one, in a any condition, please point me towards her. Thanks
