    Changing House Bank Battery Types

Basics I’m seeing red flags. I’d like to see how he has this wired before installing any new batteries. Please sketch us a wiring diagram of your 12VDC System. It sounds like one of these batteries is working harder than the other.

    What is Warp?

On the UMR we teach Kedging as a method to move a, dead in the water, boat out of the channel to avoid collision with tow boats. Repetitively throwing and hauling your anchor 90deg to the channel warping the boat out of harm’s way.

Converting to an induction stove top

I removed the stove and trash compactor. Rebuilt with granite countertop with drawer dishwasher and space to store the induction cooktop. I like the counter space and use all countertop appliances. Much more versatile

    Onboard Ovens

I agree on the Belleville Smart Oven. I swapped my traditional oven on the boat for a drawer dishwasher and added the Smart Oven. I use it a lot and it will handle a 13” pizza the old one wouldn’t fit.

    Boat Shopping, Bayliner 4788?

Last year I sought a 4788 as a live aboard. I ran out of opportunities that also had the options I was looking for. I ended up shifting my focus to the Meridian 490 which was the upgraded Rebranded version of the 4788. It’s the same boat with high gloss cherry wood finish and the attention to...

    heat choices

Yes, I have 3-16K BTU heat pumps also, but find a small 500W heater is great for taking the chill out of the evening air. That’s why there are options based on your needs.

    heat choices

I guess it depends on your % of time at the slip vs underway. TemptUs has 4-500W 120V King in-wall heaters w/blowers and wall mounted thermostats. I was Living on the boat until November last year and Moved back April 1st this year. Plenty of days in the 20s and a few colder than that. I did run...

    Another power plug mishap.....

I agree with your hand test as it will uncover a problem prior to a failure. I noticed the hotter plug by hand before I noticed the beginning of a plug failure. You will see plug failure as a browning or blackening of the yellow plastic along the edges where the blade enter the cord plug. You...

    Another power plug mishap.....

I’m getting ready to retire from 45 years as an electrical power engineer and a boater for 39 years. The limitation on the amount of current a thermo-magnetic breaker will carry is based on how it is used in the circuit. Breakers will carry their handle rating in open air but are limited to 80%...

    Bow Thruster vs Stern Thruster

Whether it’s buy or rent, they are one of the most costly accessories on the boat. Especially when it comes time to upgrade.

    Bow Thruster vs Stern Thruster

I’m following with interest. I’ve got the same Hull in a Meridian 490. Do have a bow thruster and had considered stern thruster, but low on the wish list. Please keep us informed if you go ahead with the project.
